SAM KASS NAMED NBC NEWS SENIOR FOOD ANALYST
NEW YORK - July 29, 2015 - Sam Kass has been named Senior Food Analyst for NBC News. The announcement was made this morning on TODAY: http://on.today.com/1VN2O0d. Kass will make his first on-air appearance in this role tomorrow, Thursday, July 30 on TODAY.
In his new position, Kass will cover a variety of topics from healthy eating and wellness to emerging food trends and policy. He will report for all platforms of NBC News including TODAY, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, and TODAY Food, where he will write a monthly digital column.
Prior to joining NBC News, Kass worked at the White House from 2009 to 2014. During this period he served as President Barack Obama's Senior Policy Advisor for Nutrition Policy, Executive Director for First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! Campaign, and Assistant Chef in the White House kitchen. Kass has long had an interest in sustainability and nutrition. Upon his arrival at the White House, he helped the First Lady plant the first major vegetable garden since the 1890's. Each year, it is harvested by local school children and remains a source of food for both the First Family and the local community.
Kass graduated from the University of Chicago and received his international culinary education in Austria, Italy, New Zealand, Mexico, and the United States. He lives in New York City with his wife, MSNBC's Alex Wagner.
