Veteran TV Producer Marc Warren to Oversee Program Now in its Second Year
The application period has opened for Disney Channel Storytellers, a program designed to foster creative ideas and develop the next generation of series creators and writers of programming for kids, tweens and families. It was announced by Jennilee Cummings, Vice President, Original Series, Disney Channels Worldwide. Now in its second year, the 20-week salaried program commences in November 2015 and is open to professionally represented writers. With a Tuesday, September 1 deadline, information on how to apply is available at http://partners.disney.com/storytellers.
Emmy-nominated Marc Warren, writer and producer of Disney Channel hit series "Even Stevens," "That's So Raven" and "Cory in the House," returns as program supervisor. Advisors also include Disney Channels' programming and development executives and producers.
Cummings says, "We're building upon Storytellers' success after its inaugural year resulted in one writing team's pilot being produced for series consideration at Disney Channel and a second team joining the writing staff of our upcoming comedy series 'BUNK'D."
Each participant or writing team in the program will develop one live-action script for pilot consideration, with mentoring from concept ideation and writing to network pitching and pilot production. They will also create digital content for multiple platforms.
It's A Laugh Productions, Inc., a signatory company to the Writers Guild of America (WGA), and a regular supplier of children's television series programming, has engaged the writers in the Disney Channel Storytellers program, which will provide participants with WGA membership eligibility credits.
