DARIUS RUCKER'S SURPRISE "CMT INSTANT JAM" FROM CHARLESTON, SC PREMIERES SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 AT 10 P.M., ET/PT
NASHVILLE - September 3, 2015 - Darius Rucker surprised his hometown of Charleston, SC with a free pop-up concert last week, and now those who were unable to snag a wristband to the exclusive event can see first-hand how the concert unfolded from start to finish when "CMT Instant Jam: Darius Rucker" premieres Saturday, September 5 at 10 p.m., ET/PT. With the Atlantic Ocean serving as the scenic backdrop, the one-hour show features Rucker performing on the beach at local venue The Windjammer to hits including "Homegrown Honey," "Don't Think I Don't Think About It," "Alright," Hootie and the Blowfish favorite "Only Wanna Be With You" and more.
In the days leading up to the top-secret concert, Rucker teased the announcement to fans on Twitter - first revealing he wanted to meet up in South Carolina for a quick jam, then disclosing he'd be doing an "Instant Jam" in Charleston, and finally, on the morning of the show, he unveiled when and where wristbands would be available. Fans rushed to the College of Charleston's Cistern Yard in hopes of securing a wristband, and with only a few hundred distributed, they sold out within minutes. In addition to documenting all the buzz leading up to the show, "Instant Jam" includes Rucker discussing how growing up in the South and near the beach influenced his music, why he wanted to do the top-secret show at The Windjammer, and how proud he is of his hometown uniting after the tragedy that occurred there earlier this summer.
Each episode of "Instant Jam" features live performances and captures all the excitement and energy as artists reveal to fans how to score tickets to an exclusive show in their area, while giving a behind-the-scenes look at the hours leading up to their concert. Previous "CMT Instant Jams" include Kenny Chesney, who played a pop-up show for college students in Athens, Georgia and Florida Georgia Line, who delivered a surprise performance in a small club in Nashville.
Darius Rucker first attained multi-platinum status in the music industry as former lead singer and rhythm guitarist of GRAMMY award-winning Hootie & the Blowfish. Since re-introducing himself to the world as a country artist, he has released four consecutive albums to top the Billboard Country albums chart and earned a whole new legion of fans. In 2014, Rucker won his third career GRAMMY award for Best Solo Country Performance for his triple platinum selling cover of Old Crow Medicine Show's "Wagon Wheel," off his most recent album, True Believers. Rucker's first two country albums, Learn To Live and Charleston, SC 1966 produced five No. 1 singles including "Come Back Song," "This," "Alright," "It Won't Be Like This For Long" and "Don't Think I Don't Think About It." Southern Style, his fourth studio country album, features his latest No. 1 single "Homegrown Honey," co-written by Rucker, label mate Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum and Nathan Chapman.
