New York, NY - October 14, 2015 - TV Land announced today on Facebook that its buzzworthy and critically-acclaimed series "Younger" will return Tuesday, January 12th at 10pm ET/PT with double the romance, drama and excitement, airing two back-to-back episodes for a one-hour season opener. Immediately following will be the premiere of the network's bold new comedy "Teachers" from Chicago-based improv group The Katydids and executive producers Alison Brie ("Community"), Jay Martel and Ian Roberts ("Key and Peele"). "Teachers" will regularly air on Tuesdays at 10:30pm ET/PT, right after new episodes of "Younger."
"'Younger' and 'Teachers' represent two very different sides of the new, smarter and edgier TV Land," said Keith Cox, Executive Vice President, Development and Original Programming, TV Land. "Season 2 of 'Younger' brings even more witty, sexy and cliffhanger moments and 'Teachers' is hilariously bizarre, pushing the envelope and bringing the network into new comedic territory."
"Younger," now shooting at the renowned Silvercup Studios in Long Island City, follows Liza (two-time Tony(R) winner Sutton Foster), a 40-year old woman who pretends to be 26 in order to get a job in the highly competitive world of publishing - and succeeds. Now working under the prickly Diana (Miriam Shor), Liza has to figure out how to balance her real life with bestie Maggie (Debi Mazar), and her "pretend" life with her new crew - friend/coworker Kelsey (Hilary Duff), fashion publicist Lauren (Molly Bernard) and the always-sketchy Thad (Dan Amboyer), Kelsey's boyfriend. After Liza let her secret slip to sexy young tattoo artist Josh (Nico Tortorella) at the end of the first season, she now must try to salvage their relationship, all while navigating a confusing chemistry with her boss Charles (Peter Hermann) and dealing with her daughter Caitlin's (Tessa Albertson) return from studying abroad. The series is written and executive produced by entertainment icon Darren Star.
"Teachers" revolves around a group of elementary school teachers who are trying to mold the minds of America's youth, but don't have their own lives together at all. From Ms. Bennigan awkwardly flirting with the school's resident "hot dad," to Ms. Snap hooking up with the school janitor, and Ms. Watson making her class Facebook-stalk an ex-boyfriend, they're changing the world - perhaps not for the better - one student at a time. "Teachers" is written by and stars The Katydids, who wrote and acted in the popular web series of the same name and are each named a version of "Katie" - Caitlin Barlow, Katy Colloton, Cate Freedman, Kate Lambert, Katie O'Brien and Kathryn Renée Thomas. Along with The Katydids, Alison Brie ("Community") and showrunners Ian Roberts and Jay Martel ("Key and Peele") executive produce the series. Matt Miller and Cap Gun TV are also executive producers.
Brie will make a guest appearance in the pilot episode of "Teachers" as Lauren Lark, a district administrator facilitating an anti-bullying workshop at the school, who ironically has a less-than-friendly past with one of the teachers, Deb Adler (Thomas). Other guest stars making appearances this season include Rob Riggle ("21 Jump Street"), Lacey Chabert ("Mean Girls"), Jesse Bradford ("Bring It On"), Tim Bagley ("Knocked Up"), Sam Richardson ("Veep"), Trevor Larcom ("Fresh Off The Boat") and more.
