40-YEAR-OLD ROOKIE (CBS, New!) - Brian Burns ("Blue Bloods") has sold a new drama to the Eye billed as "a father/son story about a former criminal defense attorney who, in order to clear his conscience and be on the right side of justice, becomes a 40-year-old rookie cop working alongside his son in the same precinct." Eric and Kim Tannenbaum of The Tannenbaum Company also serve as executive producers on the project, a studio for which wasn't specified. (Variety.com)
HOUSE SITTER (FOX, New!) - Matt Bass and Teddy Bressman have set up a potential single-camera comedy at the network about Beans, "a house sitter who lives life according to his own set of rules; he turns your day-to-day existence into his vacation, your mundane into his adventure, and your bathrobe into his... bathrobe." Said duo will write and co-executive produce the 20th Century Fox Television-based project with the Walcott Co.'s Jake Johnson, Max Winkler and Jason Carden executive producing. The half-hour is inspired by Johnson's long-time friend Brian (Captain Beans) Farrell, who will serve as consultant. (Deadline.com)
RUSSIANS ARE COMING, THE (NBC, New!) - Sam Wolfson ("Finding Carter") has sold a new single-camera comedy to the Peacock "that follows a fish-out-of-water husband when his Russian in-laws move in upstairs." Orchard Farm Productions' Mila Kunis, Cami Curtis, Susan Curtis and Lisa Sterbakov are executive producing the Universal Television-based half-hour with Wolfson serving as a co-executive producer. TINY BEAUTIFUL THINGS (HBO, New!) - Cheryl Strayed is looking to bring her 2012 bestselling book of the same name - "a collection of essays compiled from Strayed's Dear Sugar advice column" to the small screen. Strayed and husband Brian Lindstrom will pen the adaptation, which is "set to explore love, loss, lust and life through the eyes of a Portland family who live by the mantra that the truth will never kill you." Pacific Standard's Reese Witherspoon, Bruna Papandrea, Jayme Lemons and Laura Dern and are also on board to executive produce. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED MATT FOGEL/TODD STRAUSS-SCHULSON PROJECT (TBS, New!) - Writer Matt Fogel and writer/director Todd Strauss-Schulson have scored a pilot order from the cable channel for a new comedy about Todd (Adam Shapiro) and Fogel (Jack Carpenter), "two kind of guys who talk about their feelings, frequent therapy sessions and dabble with mobile phone meditation apps." Legendary Television is behind the project with Red Hour Films' Ben Stiller and Ulterior Productions' Ken Franchi likewise executive producing. Also cast is Shenaz Treasury as Hillary, "the wife of Todd and Fogel's buddy from college." (Deadline.com)

Sherilyn Fenn will recur on "Shameless" as "an earthy, sensual, flouncy, flamboyant and joyous woman who had a brief encounter with Frank (William H. Macy)" as a teen, succeeding the previously cast Kelly LeBrock (Deadline.com); Henry Czerny has been cast as DC Comics villain Toyman on "Supergirl" (ComicBook.com); Mel Harris will visit "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" as "the mother of lovable West Covina barkeep Greg Serrano (Santino Fontana)" (Variety.com); and Yahoo! has shelved its Scott Stuber-produced sitcom "The Pursuit" (Variety.com).
