CBSN, The 24/7, Digital Streaming Network from CBS News, Launches "CBSN Originals"

CBSN, THE 24/7, DIGITAL STREAMING NETWORK FROM CBS NEWS, LAUNCHES "CBSN ORIGINALS"

PASADENA, CALIF. - CBSN, the 24/7, digital streaming news network from CBS News, will launch CBSN ORIGINALS, a new series of immersive, long-form reports, in January, it was announced today by CBS News President David Rhodes.

CBSN ORIGINALS enhance the digital service's wide-ranging, anchored coverage and original reporting of breaking news, current events, political, entertainment and sports news, which continues to be available 24 hours a day on all connected devices.

The first CBSN Original features Vladimir Duthiers' report from the volatile suburbs of Paris and Brussels that investigators believe were the crucible for November's terrorist attack. Elaine Quijano's upcoming in-depth reports will go behind the headlines in the ongoing political campaign to see how such critical issues as immigration, economic inequality and guns impact everyday Americans.

"CBSN ORIGINALS are the next step forward in the evolution of CBSN. Audiences are increasingly coming to CBSN for anchored reporting from the U.S. and around the globe, as well as CBS News content on demand," said Rhodes. "CBSN ORIGINALS will bring a new dimension to the service, with in-depth reporting specifically for digital platforms."

Duthiers' first CBSN ORIGINAL will be streamed on Jan. 18, 2016.

"Vlad's reports from Paris and Brussels, produced after the media focus on the region ended, are unflinching and compelling journalism at its best that expose a world few viewers have seen nor understand.

Launched on Nov. 6, 2014, CBSN is CBS News' 24/7 digital streaming news network that features live, anchored coverage and original reporting, including the latest breaking world and U.S. news, across all digital platforms. CBSN is now available on leading connected TV devices including Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, Roku players and Roku TV models, and Xbox One, as well as the CBS News mobile apps for Android, iOS and Windows 8.1, and CBSNews.com on desktop and mobile.

Since launch, CBSN has resonated with younger viewers. The median age of CBSN viewers is under 40. Those viewers watch when they want to watch, wherever they have a connection to the Internet. Viewers spend an average of nearly 60 minutes each watching CBSN on connected TV devices. Overall usage of CBSN has grown every quarter since launch. CBSN delivered 33 million streams in the fourth quarter of 2015, up from 17 million in the prior quarter. CBSN also marked its 10 most-watched days in the last two months of 2015, driven by breaking news coverage of such major events as the Paris attacks, the San Bernardino shootings and the Democratic debate.

Vladimir Duthiers joined CBS News in 2014 as a New York-based correspondent. He became a correspondent for CBSN at the network's launch in November 2014, and since then has anchored and reported during such breaking news events as the intense protests in Ferguson, Mo., following the shooting of an African-American man by a white police officer, the riots in Baltimore, Md., following the questionable death of a man in police custody, and the shootings in San Bernardino, Calif. Since joining CBS News, his work has been featured on CBS THIS MORNING, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY and CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD and all CBS News platforms. Prior to CBS, Duthiers was a correspondent at CNN based in Lagos, Nigeria, where he covered such stories as the military intervention in Mali, the terrorist attack on the Amenas gas plant in Algeria, and President Barack Obama's visit to Senegal.

Elaine Quijano joined CBS News in 2010 and reports for CBS THIS MORNING and the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY and all CBS News platforms. She's been a correspondent at CBSN since the network's launch in November 2014, and has anchored and reported on such major news events as the terrorist attacks in Paris, the attack on the France office of the magazine "Charlie Hebdo," the riots in Baltimore, Maryland after a man died in police custody, and the shootings of a television correspondent and cameraman for WDBJ-TV. Before CBS News, Quijano was a White House and general assignment correspondent for CNN based in Washington, where she also reported from the Pentagon and the Supreme Court. She's covered the administrations of President Barack Obama and George W. Bush.
