DEAD OF SUMMER (Freeform/ABCS; W: Adam Horowitz, Edward Kitsis & Ian Goldberg; D: Adam Horowitz & Edward Kitsis) - Amber Coney has signed onto the upcoming drama, about the counselors at Camp Clearwater circa the late 1980s, a seemingly idyllic Midwestern summer camp, including first loves, first kisses - and first kills. She'll play Carolina Diaz, "better known by her nickname Cricket because she likes to chirp." (Deadline.com)
DESIGNATED SURVIVOR (ABC/ABCS; W: David Guggenheim; D: Paul McGuigan) - Adan Canto ("Blood & Oil") has joined the cast of the Kiefer Sutherland-led drama, about Tom Kirkman, a lower level United States Cabinet member who is suddenly appointed President after a catastrophic attack during the State of the Union kills everyone above him in the Presidential line of succession. He'll play Aaron Shore, the former White House Deputy Chief of Staff who Kirkman inherits as his own senior advisor. (Deadline.com)
FREQUENCY (The CW/WBT; W: Jeremy Carver; D: TBA) - Riley Smith ("Nashville") has been tapped as the male lead on the drama pilot, based on the Jim Caviezel/Dennis Quaid-led 2000 feature of the same name. Said effort "centers on Raimy, a female police detective in 2016 who discovers that she is able to speak via a ham radio with her estranged father, Frank Sullivan (Smith), also a detective, who died in 1996." I'M NOT YOUR FRIEND (CBS, New!) - Matt LeBlanc ("Episodes") is set to star in a new comedy pilot at the Eye about "a contractor who learns that raising his kids is more challenging than expected when his wife goes back to work." Jeff and Jackie Filgo penned the multi-camera project for CBS Television Studios with James Burrows already on board to direct. LeBlanc (who has a guaranteed 13-episode payday), the Filgos and 3 Arts Entertainment's Michael Rotenberg and Troy Zien are the executive producers. (Deadline.com)
MARLON (NBC/Universal; W: Chris Moynihan & Marlon Wayans; D: TBA) - Essence Atkins is set to star opposite Marlon Wayans in the multi-camera comedy pilot, about an inappropriate but loving father (Wayans) committed to successfully co-parenting with his polar opposite ex-wife. She'll play said ex-wife, Angie, "a type-A interior designer by trade and something of a control freak who did one reckless and spontaneous thing in her life: fell in love with Marlon." SUNSET PPL (NBC/Universal; W: Aaron Colom & Adriano Valentini; D: TBA) - Comedian Brandon Kyle Goodman is the latest addition to the comedy pilot, about a group of millennial friends who struggle with their own made-up rules for personal and professional success. He'll presumably play one of said group, alongside the previously cast Julianna Guill and Cass Bugge. (Deadline.com)
WILL (TNT/; W: Craig Pearce; D: Shekhar Kapur) - Colm Meaney and Mattias Inwood have both been cast in the drama pilot, the wild story of young William Shakespeare's arrival onto the punk rock theater scene that was 16th century London - the seductive, violent world where his raw talent faced rioting audiences, religious fanatics and raucous side-shows. Meaney will play James Burbage, "a carpenter with a vision: to build the first theatre in London since Roman times, a 3,000-seat auditorium that became so famous it was simply called The Theatre"; with Inwood as Richard Burbage, James' son, "although innately talented, he is a little too much in love with himself and prone to overact." Y'ALL IN THE FAMILY (CBS/CTS; W: Stephnie Weir; D: TBA) - Stephnie Weir's multi-camera comedy - set in Texas and centering on a conservative, small town family who is forced to reconcile their family values when they discover their children's lives are less than perfect - has been ordered to pilot by the Eye. Amigos de Garcia Productions' Greg Garcia also serves as an executive producer with Alix Jaffe as a co-executive producer. (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Jane Lynch took to Twitter with the news CBS has pulled plug on her new Thursday comedy "Angel from Hell" (@janemarielynch); Joe Carnahan is developing a TV series based on Mark Donald's memoir "Battle Ready: Memoir of a SEAL Warrior Medic" (Deadline.com); Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner are likewise looking to bring Deborah Harkness's historical fantasy novel "A Discovery of Witches" to the small screen (Deadline.com); Annabeth Gish will recur on "Scandal" in a yet-to-be-revealed role (Deadline.com); and Taye Diggs will guest on the landmark 300th episode of "NCIS" as "a Special Ops sniper who suffered traumatic injuries and PTSS after an ambush attack in Iraq" (TVLine.com).
