By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

APB (FOX/20th; W: David Slack; D: Len Wiseman) - Natalie Martinez ("Kingdom") has been tapped for a lead role on the drama pilot, about when a tech billionaire purchases a troubled police precinct in the wake of a loved one's murder, but can this eccentric and enigmatic figure's cutting edge approach fix the broken ways of these blue blooded veterans? She'll play Amelia Murphy, "a wry, confident cop from a family of police, who never hesitates to question authority, which may be the reason she has alienated every CO she's worked for and wound up stuck in the dysfunctional 13th Precinct." In addition, David Bernardi, Dennis Kim, Todd Hoffman and Robert Friedman have been added as executive producers. (Deadline.com)

CONVICTION (ABC/ABCS; W: Liz Friedlander & Liz Friedman; D: Liz Friedlander) - Manny Montana and Emily Kinney have both been cast in the drama pilot, about Carter Morrison (Hayley Atwell), the brilliant but rebellious daughter of a Clinton-like political family who is forced into taking a job as the head of Los Angeles' newly created Conviction Integrity Unit. He'll play Franklin "Frankie" Rios, "who is in charge of Forensics and has a street-savvy reserve that co-exists with a boyish excitement for science"; while she's set as Tess Thompson, "the paralegal for the Unit team who used to work for the Innocence Project but decided to work for CIU because she thinks she can make a bigger impact working cases from inside the system." (Deadline.com)

INFAMOUS, THE (A&E/A+E; W: Joshua Zetumer; D: Anthony Hemingway) - Wilson Bethel ("Hart of Dixie") is the latest to be cast in the pilot, a drama set against real events in turbulent 1990s Los Angeles leading up to the LA Riots, and centers on two complicated men on a collision course: an ambitious reformed gangster poised to break out of South Central and the LAPD detective hell-bent on taking him down. He's set as Jason Gant, "an officer with the LAPD's Crash Unit." (Deadline.com)

LETHAL WEAPON (FOX/WBT; W: Matt Miller; D: McG) - Damon Wayans, Sr. is set to star as Roger Murtaugh in the network's small screen take on the feature franchise, which has been ordered to pilot. Said effort is further detailed as follows: When Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs suffers the loss of his wife and baby, he moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh (Damon Wayans, Sr.), who, having recently suffered a "minor" heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life. Director McG; Good Session Productions' Miller and Lin Pictures' Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz are the executive producers.

PRESENCE (UNLIC) (ABC/ABCS; W/D: John Ridley) - Colin Woodell has scored a role on the drama pilot, about Presence Foster (Stephanie Sigman), a former Army Counter Insurgency Operative who finds herself navigating a widely divergent and highly colorful cross section of Los Angeles as she unintentionally begins a career as an unlicensed (unlic) Private Investigator. He'll play Mike McKay, "a young LAPD detective and fellow Army vet who has equal parts heart and charm - a good cop and a good man. His personal and professional life begin to take a turn once Presence arrives on the scene as they balance their mutual attraction with the loose partnership they begin to form." (Deadline.com)

SHUT EYE (Hulu/TriStar; W: Les Bohem; D: Johan Renck) - Angus Sampson has scored a role on the Jeffrey Donovan-led drama, about Charlie Haverford, a failed magician who now works as a psychic/conman overseeing a number of fortune telling parlors in Los Angeles. Employed for many years by a Romani kingpin, Charlie's life is stifled and going nowhere until a blow to the head jars him into a new mindset and makes him question everything he has ever believed. When his wife (Kadee Strickland) urges him to break out on his own, he's careful - because he knows that one wrong move will land him in a shallow grave. Sampson will play Fonzo, "a macho and powerful Romani kingpin with a taste for the finer things in life." (Deadline.com)

UNTITLED KEVIN JAMES PROJECT (CBS/CTS/Sony; W: Bruce Helford, Kevin James & Rock Reuben; D: Andy Fickman) - Ryan Cartwright has signed onto the Kevin James-led multi-camera comedy, about a newly retired police officer looking forward to spending more quality time with his wife and three kids only to discover he faces much tougher challenges at home than he ever did on the streets. He'll play Chale, "a dreamer from an upscale family who may be on the verge of creating the next billion-dollar app and carries himself as if it's already happened." Additionally, Andy Fickman (Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2) is set to direct the pilot. (Deadline.com)

UNTITLED MATT HUBBARD PROJECT (NBC/Universal; W: Matt Hubbard; D: Claire Scanlon) - Francois Chau, Susan Chuang and Concetta Tomei have all been cast in the single-camera comedy pilot, about Andrew (Chris Smith) and Josie (Elizabeth Ho), a happily married interracial couple whose lives take a turn when they move close to Josie's family in Missouri. Chau will play Josie's father Jae Kim, "the charismatic, strong-willed, demanding owner of Kim's Academy, a successful tae kwon do studio where Jack McBrayer plays his sycophantic chief instructor"; with Chuang as her mother Sun Kim, who "has lived in the U.S. for 30 years but still holds on to many traditional Korean values, a characteristic that sometimes frustrates her more progressive daughter"; and Tomei as Barbara Denton, Andrew's grandmother and a commercial actress from L.A. (Deadline.com)

UNTITLED TRACEY WIGFIELD PROJECT (NBC/Universal; W: Tracey Wigfield; D: Beth McCarthy-Miller) - Andrea Martin and Kimrie Lewis-Davis have both been cast in the single-camera comedy pilot, which centers on a mother-daughter relationship that is challenged when an overly involved New Jersey mom gets an internship at her daughter's workplace, a cable news network. The former will play said mom, Carol, with the latter as Portia, "the dingbat co-host on the show, a breezy, demanding, clueless woman whose inane story ideas are given the green light." (Deadline.com)

AND IN OTHER NEWS... - NBC has formally given the green light to "Maya and Marty in Manhattan," its long-in-the-works variety show from Maya Rudolph and Martin Short, and is targeting a premiere in late May (Variety.com); directors have been locked on for pilots "Hail Mary" (Julie Anne Robinson), "Matt Hubbard Project" (Claire Scanlon), "Miranda's Rights" (Jennifer Getzinger), "Speechless" (Christine Gernon), "Tracey Wigfield Project" (Beth McCarthy-Miller) and "Wing Person" (Leslye Headland) (Deadline.com); Marcos Siega will likewise helm ABC's "Time After Time" as part of a two-year overall deal with Warner Bros. Television (THR.com); Ashley Judd is the latest bound for Showtime's "Twin Peaks" revival (Deadline.com); and Dr. Dre is reportedly starring in and executive producing his own six-episode vehicle, dubbed "Vital Signs," for Apple (THR.com).
