New York - July 14, 2016 - Announced this morning by the Television Academy, BBC AMERICA earned top nods with four Primetime Emmy(R) nominations for Orphan Black and Luther.

Sarah Barnett, BBC AMERICA President, commented, "Tatiana and Idris are genius performers, and the objects of extraordinary love from fans and critics. These nominations are testimony to their phenomenal work on 'Orphan Black' and 'Luther' - stand out shows, even given the insanely high quality of the competition. BBCA is proud to be the home of such superlative talent, and super grateful to the Academy for this recognition."

Tatiana Maslany, breakout star of BBC AMERICA original series, Orphan Black, received her second Primetime Emmy Award(R) nomination for the complex multi-character performance of a young woman who discovers she is a clone - 12 in total. The role has also won her two Critics' Choice Awards, a Golden Globe(R) and Screen Actors Guild nomination, a Television Critics Association Award and a Young Hollywood Award. Orphan Black has also earned a Peabody Award.

BBC AMERICA's Luther earned three Emmy(R) nominations for Outstanding Television movie - the third for the franchise - a fourth nomination for Idris Elba in the Outstanding Actor in a Limited Series or Movie category and a nomination for Outstanding Cinematography. His iconic role as the self-destructive near-genius detective, John Luther, also won him a Golden Globe(R) award, his first Screen Actors Guild award, an NAACP Image Award and a Critics Choice Award.

"I am floored that I've been nominated but I am even more excited that 'Luther' has been nominated as well" said star Idris Elba. "The success of 'Luther' is so much due to the fans and I hope they are as proud of this nomination as we are. OH BOY! What a category!"

About Orphan Black

Sarah hoped that cleaning out a dead woman's bank account would solve all her problems. Instead, they multiplied at an unnerving rate and revealed she is not one-of-a-kind. Smart, sexy and pulsating- BBC AMERICA's original series, Orphan Black, features breakout star Tatiana Maslany (Stronger, Two Lovers and a Bear). In season four, Tatiana portrayed eight clones, including Sarah, an outsider and orphan at the center of the clone mystery, Beth, a cop who committed suicide, Alison, an unorthodox housewife, Cosima, a cosmic-thinking scientist, Helena, a reformed murderer, Rachel, a professional and ruthless businesswoman, Krystal, a ditzy nail technician and new clone M.K, a reclusive hacker. To date, Maslany has also played trans clone Tony, Russian clone Katja and dying clone Jennifer - for a total of 12 clones.

Orphan Black is produced by Temple Street Productions in association with BBC AMERICA and Bell Media's SPACE. The original drama is executive produced by Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier of Temple Street Productions. The international hit series is distributed by BBC Worldwide and can be seen in more than 170 countries.

About Luther

A BBC AMERICA co-production starring Idris Elba (The Dark Tower, Beasts of No Nation), the gripping, psychological thriller found Detective Chief Inspector John Luther struggling to cope with his demons after losing so much. After walking away from capturing the tormented psychopaths that lurk the streets of London, his attempt to leave the darker side of humanity behind for a chance at a "normal" life is quickly thwarted when he's drawn into a terrifyingly complex case.

Luther is a BBC AMERICA and BBC In-House Drama Production co-production distributed by BBC Worldwide. The executive producer is Elizabeth Kilgarriff for BBC Drama Production, England and the producer is Marcus Wilson.

Created in 1998, BBC AMERICA is a hub of innovative, culturally contagious programming like the ground-breaking un-scripted series Top Gear, the top-rated science-fiction phenomenon Doctor Who, and the fan-favorite Orphan Black. The influential network has been the launch pad for talent including Ricky Gervais, Gordon Ramsay, and Graham Norton - all adopted as American pop culture icons. A joint venture between BBC Worldwide (the commercial arm of the BBC) and AMC Networks, BBCA has attracted both critical acclaim and major awards including four Emmy(R) Awards, five Golden Globes(R) and 12 Peabody Awards. The irrepressible network has garnered one of cable's most curious, educated and affluent audiences, with many properties boasting super-fan levels of engagement.
