Michael Gambon (The Singing Detective, Harry Potter) stars as Winston Churchill in this dramatization of Churchill's life-threatening stroke in the summer of 1953, when he was prime minister for the second time. His illness and battle to recover were kept secret from the world. Lindsay Duncan (Birdman) plays Churchill's wife Clementine, and Romola Garai (The Hour) is the remarkable young nurse who cared for him.
Churchill's Secret is a co-production of Daybreak Pictures and Masterpiece for ITV. The director is Charles Sturridge. The producer is Timothy Bricknell. The executive producers are Hal Vogel and David Aukin for Daybreak Pictures and Rebecca Eaton for MASTERPIECE at WGBH Boston. Based on the book The Churchill Secret: KBO, written by author Jonathan Smith, Churchill's Secret is adapted for television by Stewart Harcourt.
