"DARK," THE FIRST NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES PRODUCED IN GERMANY COMMENCES PRINCIPAL PHOTOGRAPHY
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - October 18th, 2016 - Netflix and Wiedemann & Berg Television announced today the start of principal photography on Dark, the first German Netflix original series. The creators and showrunners, Helmer Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese, who previously collaborated on Who am I - No System is safe, once again join forces as co-creators and co-showrunners of Dark. Together with Quirin Berg, Max Wiedemann and Justyna Müsch, Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese also act as executive producers. The director of photography is Nikolaus Summerer.
The mystery family saga stars Louis Hofmann, Oliver Masucci, Jördis Triebel, Maja Schöne, Sebastian Rudolph, Anatole Taubman, Mark Waschke, Karoline Eichhorn, Stephan Kampwirth, Anne Ratte-Polle, Andreas Pietschmann, Lisa Vicari, Angela Winkler, Michael Mendl and many more. Shooting will take place until the end of March in locations throughout Berlin and the surrounding area. Dark, a family saga, will debut exclusively on Netflix in late 2017.
The first German production from the world's leading Internet TV Network is set in a German town in present day where the disappearance of two young children exposes the double lives and fractured relationships among four families. In ten, hour-long episodes, the story takes on a surprising twist that ties back to the same town in 1986.

Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, both graduates of the University of Television & Film Munich (HFF), have been working together since Odars feature debut The Silence (2010) most recently on Who am I - No System is safe. The thriller celebrated its world premiere at the International Film Festival in Toronto in 2014 and became in Germany an acclaimed viewers and critics cinema success, awarded with three German Movie Awards and the Bambi for the best German film. Odar who is on the list "Ten Directors to Watch" by the magazine Variety directed his Hollywood debut Sleepless with Oscar(R) winner Jamie Foxx for which will be released in 2017.

Quirin Berg and Max Wiedemann founded their production company in 2003 while studying at the University of Television & Film Munich (HFF). The Lives of Others, their first feature film, won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Further box office hits followed, including Baran bo Odars Who am I - No System is safe with Justyna Müsch as executive producer. In 2010 the two producers founded Wiedemann & Berg Television, creating a wide range of films, mini-series and series, such as the first German Pay-TV series in 2012.
