Netflix Commissions "Giri/Haji" with BBC One

Netflix and BBC One have commissioned Giri/Haji (translates to Duty/Shame) an eight episode hour-long drama series from Sister Pictures production.

Giri/Haji will stream globally outside of the UK on Netflix following its premiere on BBC One.

From Joe Barton, the writer of BAFTA winning Our World War and Humans, comes an original eight-part series about a middle-aged Tokyo detective (Kenzo) who travels to London in search of his wayward younger brother (Yuto). Once thought dead, Yuto is now believed to be posing as a Yakuza gangster in London and wanted for the murder of a Japanese businessman there.

Synopsis: A Tokyo detective travels to London to look for his long lost younger brother, now involved with the Yakuza (Japanese mob) and wanted for the murder of a Japanese businessman. With the help of a young Japanese-British hustler who helps the detective navigate London, the mystery continues to unravel. His family's honour, and the fragile peace between the warring gangs back in Tokyo, is at stake. Giri/Haji is Japanese for "Duty/Shame."

Giri/Haji has been commissioned by Piers Wenger and Charlotte Moore for BBC One, and Elizabeth Bradley and Alex Sapot for Netflix, and is a Sister Pictures production. Executive Producers are Jane Featherstone, Chris Fry and Joe Barton for Sister Pictures, and Piers Wenger for the BBC. Giri/Haji will premiere on BBC One and Netflix will stream the series globally outside of the UK.
