NBC to Mull Futures of "Chicago Justice," "Trial & Error"

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- While "Chicago Justice" and "Trial & Error" are absent from NBC's 2017-18 season lineup (announced today), both series will remain under consideration for second seasons. As is customary, options on most cast members will expire on June 30.

The news was confirmed during a conference call with NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt on Sunday. Other highlights:

-- Tina Fey will drop by the sophomore run of "Great News," which she also serves as an executive producer. No specifics about her character were given.

-- The Peacock will likewise keep the Fey-produced comedy pilot "The Sackett Sisters" under consideration for a series commitment. The network previously passed on its other comedy and drama pilots.

-- Additionally, Deadline.com reports executive producers Michael Brandt and Joe Chappelle are departing "Chicago Fire" while fellow executive producer Mark Tinker is out at sibling "Chicago PD." Derek Haas, who co-created "Fire" with Brandt, will continue as a solo showrunner on the series. Chappelle and Tinker were the in-house directors for their respective series. Reza Tabrizi is in talks to succeed the former.
