AMERICAN WOMAN (Paramount) - John Riggi has bowed out as showrunner of the upcoming comedy, citing creative differences. Executive producer John Wells will instead take over day-to-day operations on the first season. (THR.com)
FAMILY GUY (FOX) - Kristen Bell will drop by the upcoming season as "a possible love interest for Brian." Additionally, Louis C.K., Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara and Bill Maher are on tap for the season premiere which "pokes fun at the Emmys, imagining the Griffins' versions of such trophy-magnet shows as 'Modern Family' and 'Breaking Bad.'" INTO THE BADLANDS (AMC) - Lorraine Toussaint is joining the cast of the show's third season as Cressida, "a self styled Prophetess and mentor to Pilgrim. She is his spiritual guide, political counsel and chief military strategist." (Deadline.com)
KOMINSKY METHOD, THE (Netflix, New!) - Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin are attached to star in a single-camera comedy at the streaming service about Sandy Kominsky (Douglas), "an actor who years ago had a brief fling with success and is now a revered Hollywood acting coach. Arkin plays his long-suffering agent and friend, Norman." Chuck Lorre and his Warner Bros. Television-based Chuck Lorre Productions are behind the project, which is on track for a 10-episode order. Douglas will also executive produce. (Deadline.com)
MOM (CBS) - Steven Weber will guest in an upcoming episode as Patrick, "the newly divorced brother of Adam (William Fichtner), the boyfriend of Bonnie (Allison Janney)." (EW.com)
PATRICK MELROSE (Showtime) - Blythe Danner has been tapped for a role on the Benedict Cumberbatch-led drama as Nancy, "the wealthy Park Avenue sister to Eleanor Melrose (Jennifer Jason Leigh)." (Deadline.com)
REPUBLIC (NBC, New!) - "Blindspot's" Alex Berger, Martin Gero, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter are set to re-team for a new drama at the Peacock "which follows the newly minted female Chief of Staff to a moderate Republican president. With their administration in dire crisis, they find themselves under fire from extremists on both sides, defending their well-intentioned actions both politically and legally." The project, which has a put pilot commitment and presumably will be written by Berger, is set up at the latter's Warner Bros. Television-based Quinn's House and Berlanti Productions. (Deadline.com)
SMILF (Showtime) - Miguel Gomez has joined the cast of the upcoming Frankie Shaw-led comedy as Rafi, "a recovering addict in his 20s who is trying to navigate the new world of being a good ex-boyfriend to Bridgette (Shaw) and father to their 2-year old son Larry." He replaces Ismael Cruz from the original pilot. (Deadline.com)
STAR (FOX) - Michael Michele has signed on as a new series regular, Ayanna, "described as a modern day black Alexis Carrington. She's the new president of the girls' record label, and money is the bottom line for her. She knows the music business is changing and is driven to do whatever it takes to make her label relevant." SUBURBS FAMOUS (Bravo, New!) - Nia Vardalos is attached to star in a new dramedy at the cable channel about "what happens after a suburban housewife (Vardalos) accidentally becomes famous in a viral video. Thrust into the cutthroat world of celebrity chefs, the newly divorced mom must navigate between the intense public scrutiny which could destroy her and the investors who want to make her a star... all while realizing she suddenly has the one thing everyone wants: power." Vardalos will co-write the project alongside Mike Mariano with Untitled Entertainment's Jennifer Levine and Stephanie Simon as well as Flame Ventures' Tony Krantz likewise executive producing for ITV Studios America and Universal Cable Productions. John-Eric Capps will serve as a co-executive producer. (Deadline.com)
TRANSPARENT (Amazon) - Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster has signed a first-look deal with Amazon Studios. Said duo served as consulting producers on the show's fourth season and were behind the comedy pilot "The Legend of Master Legend." (Deadline.com)
X-FILES, THE (FOX) - Barbara Hershey has been tapped for a recurring role on the series' 11th season. She'll play Erika Price, "a powerful figure who represents a mysterious organization." Additionally, Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose will reprise their respective roles of Agents Miller and Einstein. (Deadline.com, (TVLine.com)
YELLOWSTONE (Paramount) - Jill Hennessy, Patrick St. Esprit, Ian Bohen and Denim Richards have all booked roles opposite Kevin Costner in the upcoming drama. Hennessy will play Senator Huntington, "an ally of Chief Rainwater (Gil Birmingham)"; while St. Esprit will play Attorney General Stewart; with Bohen and Richards as Ryan and Colby, respectively, "both cowboy wranglers." YOU (Lifetime) - Shay Mitchell has signed onto the Penn Badgley/Elizabeth Lail-led drama as Peach Salinger. "With vast resources and family money, Peach is the controlling queen bee of Beck's (Lail) inner circle of privileged friends. She has her sights set on Joe (Badgley), in a way that feels oddly adversarial with Beck." Said casting is part of a talent holding/development deal with producer Warner Bros. Television, where she and producing partner David Dean Portelli will also develop new series projects via their Amore & Vita Productions banner. (Deadline.com)
