AMERICAN SOUL (BET, New!) - The life of "Soul Train" creator/host Don Cornelius is set to be the focus of a proposed 10-episode drama series which gives "an unflinching look at the entrepreneur, his Soul Train dancers, crew and musicians in a cutthroat Hollywood in the 1970s and how they work, play, rise and fall against the backdrop of the show most responsible for the way African-American culture was perceived by the world." Devon Greggory is penning the pilot for Jesse Collins Entertainment with Jesse Collins and Jonathan Prince also executive producing and Don's son, Tony Cornelius, and Andy Horne as co-executive producers. BOOMERANG (BET, New!) - Paramount Television has scored a 10-episode order for a half-hour comedy series based on the 1992 Eddie Murphy feature, which "revolves around a successful executive who finds that his lifestyle choices have turned back on him when his new boss turns out to be a bigger deviant that he is. It is described as an updated version that explores contemporary workplace dynamics, including the changing role of gender, office politics, relationships and the conflicts between Generation X and millennials." No auspices were given. (THR.com)
COLONY (USA) - Peyton List, Wayne Brady, Graham McTavish and Waleed Zuaiter are all bound for the upcoming third season. List will play Amy Leonard, "a doctor and member of the San Fernando cell, who embarks on a dangerous journey with Eric Broussard (Tory Kittles) to deliver valuable secrets to Resistance fighters combating the Occupation." Brady then is Everett Kynes, "a highly successful tech entrepreneur who has risen in this new world to become the head of the rebuilt Seattle Colony"; with McTavish as Andrew MacGregor, "the leader of the most successful Resistance camp in what used to be the western United States"; and Zuaiter as Vincent, "a moral man who finds himself caught in an impossible position while working for a powerful Resistance group." MACGYVER (CBS) - Isabel Lucas is not expected to return as a series regular following her character Samantha Cage's exit back in January. (TVLine.com)
PEACHTREE PLACE (BET, New!) - Will Packer has landed a 10-episode commitment from the cable channel for a new comedy which "follows five thirty-somethings living in Atlanta as they try to build professional and personal lives they can be proud of, but the one thing they don't have keeps impeding their progress: love. Unresolved feelings from college are uncovered and secrets revealed, forcing these friends to finally deal with uncomfortable truths about each other." Felischa Marye is writing the pilot and will co-executive produce alongside Will Packer Media's Sheila Ducksworth. Packer is the executive producer. (THR.com)
ROSWELL (The CW) - Carina Adly MacKenzie has signed a two-year overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind her proposed reboot of the series. (THR.com)
STAR TREK: DISCOVERY (CBSAA) - Comedian Tig Notaro will drop by the upcoming second season as Chief Engineer Denise Reno of the U.S.S. Hiawatha. (Deadline.com)
