OXYGEN MEDIA PRESENTS TWO-HOUR SPECIAL "THE TURPIN 13: FAMILY SECRETS EXPOSED" HOSTED BY SOLEDAD O'BRIEN ON SATURDAY, APRIL 28 AT 6PM ET/PT
NEW YORK, NY - April 12, 2018 - Oxygen Media, the destination for high quality crime programming, premieres a new two-hour special, "The Turpin 13: Family Secrets Exposed" on Saturday, April 28 at 6pm ET/PT. Hosted and executive produced by Emmy(R) and Peabody Award winning journalist Soledad O'Brien, the special will take viewers on a deep dive into the story surrounding the Turpin family and the parents, David and Louise, who have been charged with keeping their children shackled and starved within the four walls of their own Perris, California home. Retracing the family's past and present, O'Brien will go beyond the shocking headlines to ask how far back the family's secrets go and how the alleged abuse was kept hidden for so long. From reported financial woes and abandoned homes to unspoken concern from neighbors, O'Brien uncovers various red flags while looking into the couple's history. Following their 30-year journey across the country, O'Brien travels to West Virginia where the couple first met, the remote Texas countryside where they once lived, and ultimately to the Turpin's latest home on a quiet California cul-de-sac where the parents were arrested. Along the way, she speaks with Louise's sister, Teresa Robinette, her half-brother, Billy Lambert, and some of the Turpin's neighbors. She also consults with experts in child trauma, and law enforcement from the various counties and states where the Turpins resided. Questions are raised as family members and neighbors address concerns about their relationship and whether David and Louise's abrupt relocations were them running toward their future or running away from a painful family secret.
Soledad O'Brien is an award-winning journalist, speaker, author, and philanthropist. O'Brien's coverage of race issues won her two Emmy awards and she earned a third for her reporting on the 2012 presidential election.
