SHOWTIME(R) ANNOUNCES EIGHTH AND FINAL SEASON OF "HOMELAND" TO PREMIERE IN JUNE 2019

LOS ANGELES - August 6, 2018 - Today, SHOWTIME announced that the eighth season of its Emmy(R) and Golden Globe(R) winning hit drama HOMELAND will be the series' final season, and will premiere in June 2019. Starring Emmy, Screen Actors Guild(R) and Golden Globe winner Claire Danes and Emmy and Tony(R) winner Mandy Patinkin, production on the final 12 episodes will begin in early 2019 in a still to be determined location. The announcement was made by David Nevins, President and CEO of Showtime Networks Inc., at the Television Critics Association's Summer Press Tour.

"HOMELAND has been a game-changing series for SHOWTIME, as provocative about the world we live in as it is prescient," Nevins said. "This project, arriving right at the beginning of my SHOWTIME tenure thanks to Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon, and brought to life by a remarkable cast led by Claire Danes and Mandy Patinkin, is a richly written character study that is now ready for its natural conclusion. Viewers will be rewarded by the way Alex brings HOMELAND home."

Alex Gansa commented, "HOMELAND has been the most joyful and rewarding experience of my career. Not many have been as lucky as me - partnered with the miraculous Claire Danes, supported to the ends of the earth by Fox and SHOWTIME, and working in the company of some of the most gifted writers, actors, and filmmakers in the business. I am sad to see the journey coming to an end, but it is time. "

Added Fox 21 Television Studios President Bert Salke,"This spectacular creation of Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon, and starring the extraordinary Claire Danes, has been a labor of love for everyone in our company, and although we still have one last season to go, we will look back on it always as something incredibly special. We'd be remiss if we did not acknowledge our deep gratitude to David and everyone at Showtime for the passion and support they lavished on this series from literally the moment they read the pilot script."

Produced by Fox 21 Television Studios for SHOWTIME, HOMELAND was developed for American television by Alex Gansa and Howard Gordon, and is based on the original Israeli series Prisoners of War by Gideon Raff. Along with Gansa and Gordon, the list of executive producers for season eight will include Chip Johannessen, Deb Cahn, Lesli Linka Glatter, Patrick Harbinson, Claire Danes, Michael Klick, Gideon Raff, Avi Nir and Ran Telem.

The network's No. 1 drama series, HOMELAND originally premiered in the fall of 2011 and quickly became one of the most acclaimed dramas on television. With its opening episodes airing just weeks after the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, HOMELAND became a meditation on the human costs of the "war on terror." Following its first season, HOMELAND was honored with six Emmy wins, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actress and Actor in a Drama Series. Additionally, the series was awarded Golden Globe, Peabody, Television Critics Association, AFI and Critics' Choice Awards. Over the next six seasons, the show would go on to be an audience and awards juggernaut.

Season seven of the series this year continued its eerily accurate reflection of the world's current political and national security landscape, as Carrie Mathison (Danes) worked to expose a vast international conspiracy determined to bring down the Keane Administration. Carrie, along with the administration's new National Security Advisor Saul Berenson (Patinkin) were thrown into a labyrinth of double agents, social media bots, "fake news" charlatans and Russian active measures, all designed to wreak havoc on America's democratic institutions. The season concluded with the surprise resignation of President Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) and Carrie's bittersweet reunion with Saul, after being held captive in Russia for seven months.
