SHOWTIME(R) TO DEBUT NEW DOCUMENTARY SHORT "THE FAMILY BUSINESS: TRUMP AND TAXES" WITH CAMERAS ONCE AGAIN EMBEDDED IN THE NEW YORK TIMES AS THEY BREAK NEWS ON PRESIDENT TRUMP
Film To Debut This Sunday, October 7 At 8:30 PM ET/PT On SHOWTIME
LOS ANGELES - October 2, 2018 - On the heels of The New York Times' breaking news story revealing new information about President Trump's financial history, SHOWTIME has announced THE FAMILY BUSINESS: TRUMP AND TAXES, a new documentary short film directed by Emmy(R) nominee Jenny Carchman and produced by Oscar(R) nominees Liz Garbus and Justin Wilkes of THE FOURTH ESTATE. The film follows a team of New York Times investigative reporters through their diligent and intense efforts in uncovering the information that led to this exclusive report. THE FAMILY BUSINESS: TRUMP AND TAXES will premiere this Sunday, October 7 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME, after an all new episode of THE CIRCUS. To watch and share a first look at THE FAMILY BUSINESS: TRUMP AND TAXES, go to:
Embedded for more than a year inside The New York Times, Carchman and her film crew trail Times investigative reporters David Barstow, Russell Buettner and Susanne Craig as they expose the untold story of how Donald Trump became rich. Mr. Trump has proclaimed himself to be a self-made billionaire but what these reporters found offers a very different account, based on tens of thousands of pages of financial documents they obtained, including more than 200 Trump family tax returns.
"We followed a singular story, outside of the daily news cycle that illustrates so much of the investigative reporting process - the patience, the perseverance, and the drive to understand a story without knowing where it would lead," said Carchman. "We witness these journalists talk to people, review thousands of documents and spend months of exhaustive fact-checking, and see how vital the press' role is in uncovering the truth."
THE FAMILY BUSINESS: TRUMP AND TAXES is produced for SHOWTIME by RadicalMedia with Moxie Firecracker Films, with Garbus, Carchman and Justin Wilkes serving as producers. Dave Sirulnick and Jon Kamen are executive producers.
