A GIRL, THE (Disney Channel, New!) - Brenda Hampton has scored a pilot order from the network for a single-camera comedy which "follows the unlikely friendship between two girls who are forced together in a new "Friends Program" in their middle school: Daisy (Dora Dolphin), the Queen Bee, who isn't used to being told the truth, and Zoe (Stacy Wiener), a girl on the autism spectrum who would rather fly solo, and who can't help do anything but that." Steven K. Tsuchida is helming the half-hour with Cameron Caulfield cast as Dwayne, the Mayor's son and Daisy's older brother; Faly Rakotohavan as Ian, a kid at Zoe's school who is new to town; Noah Ziggy James as Henry, Dwayne's younger brother; and Amy Farrington as August, Zoe's mom. AMERICAN SOUL (BET) - Shannon Kane and Perri Camper are both bound for recurring roles on the series as Ilsa Dejarnette, "a beautiful, whip-smart, self-made entrepreneur"; and Delores Cornelius, "the wife of Don Cornelius, the gel of the Cornelius family," respectively. (Deadline.com)
AMERICANIZED (ABC, New!) - Sara Saedi is developing a comedy series at the Alphabet inspired by her memoir, subtitled "Rebel without a Green Card." The ABC Studios-based project will tell "the story of a loving and off-beat Iranian family who's been living with a huge secret: they're undocumented immigrants." Hello Sunshine's Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Levy Neustadter will also executive produce. (Deadline.com)
BOOMERANG (BET) - R.J. Walker and Paula Newsome have both booked recurring roles on the film-turned-TV series as David Wright, "a Wall Street guy turned preacher with a strong moral compass"; and Victoria Johnson, "your least favorite aunt, Victoria is the Creative Director of The Graham Agency, and Bryson and Simone's boss," respectively. FOOD & FAMILIA (ABC, New!) - Danny Trejo is attached to star in a semi-autobiographical, multi-camera comedy at the Alphabet about "when the matriarch of the family passes away, she leaves her restaurant to her son, Danny - who's about to get out of prison - and her granddaughter, Michelle, who hates her father for abandoning her. This gift from beyond the grave might heal the father and daughter and get them back together but, it's gonna be rocky as the two of them work their differences out while trying to operate a restaurant, live together, and become a real family again." Peter Murrieta is penning the project with Overbrook Entertainment's Will Smith and James Lassiter also executive producing for ABC Studios. (Deadline.com)
GENIUS (NGC) - The cable channel's anthology series may reportedly shift its third season's focus to Aretha Franklin. The network previously announced Mary Shelley as the subject as part of its renewal. That installment remains in development for future seasons. (Deadline.com)
LETHAL WEAPON (FOX) - The network has commissioned two additional episodes of the show's third season, bringing its season total to 15. Said installments will feature co-star Damon Wayans, despite previous indications from the actor he would not continue past episode 13 this season. (Deadline.com)
LOVE YOU TO DEATH (Lifetime) - Emily Skeggs and Tate Donovan have both been cast in the Marcia Gay Harden-led telefilm, a shocking tale of a mother and daughter who are nothing like they seem, their tumultuous relationship ending in a brutal murder. Camile (Harden) and Esme (Skeggs) are well-known in their community - Esme as the sickly, child-like wheelchair-bound daughter, and Camile as the perfect caretaker and mother. Donovan will play Travis, "Esme's estranged father who tries to reconnect with his daughter, despite her mother's objections." (Deadline.com)
MARVEL'S IRON FIST (Netflix) - The streaming service has pulled the plug on the series after two seasons. (Deadline.com)
NOS4A2 (AMC) - Rarmian Newton and Darby Camp are both bound for the supernatural fantasy horror drama as Drew, "Vic's (Ashleigh Cummings) prep-school friend with a hidden sensitive side"; and Haley Smith, "a tough kid with an adventurous spirit and a good sense of humor." (Deadline.com)
PEAKY BLINDERS (Netflix) - Anya Taylor-Joy has been tapped for the upcoming fifth season in an unspecified role. (@BBCOne)
ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO (The CW) - Sherri Saum has been tapped for the upcoming reboot as Mimi, "the mother of Maria DeLuca (Heather Hemmens), former best friend to Liz (Jeanine Mason)." (EOnline.com)
TRAILBLAZER (ABC, New!) - Joe Webb has sold a new drama to the Alphabet which centers on Jordan Cruz, "the gifted men's basketball coach at a small D3 college in South Dakota who rises to fame when she's recruited by UCLA to become the first female coach of a Division 1 men's team. While she quickly wins over the school's female President and shares an undeniable spark with the scout who discovered her, Jordan faces more enemies than friends as she disrupts the Old Boys' clubhouse of big-time college hoops." The project is set up at ABC Studios-based Maniac Productions with the company's Michael Seitzman and Christina Davis also executive producing. (Deadline.com)
