BONE COLLECTOR, THE (NBC, New!) - V.J. Boyd and Mark Bianculli have sold a new drama to the Peacock based on Jeffery Deaver's book-turned-movie of the same name, about Lincoln Rhyme, "a retired genius forensic criminologist left paralyzed after an accident on the job. When a harrowing case brings him back to the force, Rhyme partners up with an ambitious young detective, Amelia Sachs, to take down some of the most dangerous criminals in the U.S." Universal Television and Sony Pictures Television are behind the project with Keshet Studios' Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman, Peter Traugott and Rachel Kaplan also on board to executive produce. Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie starred in the 1999 feature. (Deadline.com)
BUFFALO WINGS (FOX, New!) - "Nobodies" alums Hugh Davidson, Rachel Ramras and Larry Dorf have sold an animated comedy to the network about "two Canadian brothers who do not follow the rest of their flock when they fly south. When their hypothesis is wrong and they almost freeze to death, they must take refuge in Buffalo, NY, where they begin to live life as immigrant refugees." 20th Century Fox Television is producing. CLAWS (TNT) - Evan Daigle's Toby has been promoted to regular for the show's third season while Rebecca Creskoff and Michael Horse are slated to recur as Melba Locklear, "a Sarasota native who was a child model for catalogs and print campaigns throughout the southeast"; and Mac Locklear, "Melba's husband, a dashing Native American male who is involved in the seedy/glamorous world of Florida gaming," respectively. EMPIRE (FOX) - Alicia Coppola is bound for the current season as "a smart, flamboyant attorney investigating Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) and international money launderer Damon Cross (Wood Harris). She'll do almost anything for big target convictions because she believes they'll take her to the Governor's mansion and then the White House." (Deadline.com)
FIRST LADY (CBS, New!) - Jessica Grasl has sold a potential drama to the Eye about "the beloved First Lady of the United States, who, determined to reclaim her life, does the unthinkable - she divorces her husband while he's still in office and uses her prominence to become an advocate for truth and justice by revitalizing her career as an investigative journalist." Michael Weatherly, Eric Christian Olsen and Kate Schumaecker will also executive produce the hour via their CBS Television Studios-based Solar Drive Productions and Cloud Nine Productions, respectively, with Tiffany Grant as a co-executive producer. INSTINCT (CBS) - Reshma Shetty has scored a recurring role on the show's sophomore run as Maya, "a glamorous old love of Julian's (Naveen Andrews), who comes back into his life with a proposal he cannot resist." (Deadline.com)
MARRIAGE LIE, THE (ABC, New!) - Writer Michael Cooney, producer Kim Moses and director Michael Offer are set to team for a small screen take on Kimberly Belle's bestselling book of the same name at the Alphabet. In the project, "Iris and Will have been married for seven years and life is as close to perfect as it can be. But on the morning Will flies out for a business trip to Florida, Iris's happy world comes to an abrupt halt. Another plane headed for upstate New York has crashed into a field, killing everyone on board and, according to the airline, Will was one of the passengers. Grief-stricken and confused, Iris is convinced it all must be a huge misunderstanding." ABC Studios is producing. (Deadline.com)
NEXT (FOX, New!) - Manny Coto has scored a script commitment from the network, with a penalty attached, for a new drama about "a brilliant but paranoid former tech CEO who joins a Homeland Cybersecurity Agent and her team to stop a terrifying A.I. outbreak that threatens us all." Zaftig Films' John Requa, Glenn Ficarra and Charlie Gogolak are also on board to executive produce for 20th Century Fox Television. (Deadline.com)
PIETY (FX, New!) - Wes Brown has sold a new drama to the cable channel described as "a character-driven crime story set in and around a cult in the American West." The project is set up at the FX Productions-based 26 Keys Productions with the company's Noah Hawley also executive producing. (Deadline.com)
SIGNIFICANT BROTHER (FOX, New!) - Scott King and Moe Jelline are set to team for a multi-camera comedy at the network which "follows a newlywed couple as their marriage is tested, but ultimately strengthened, when the husband's estranged gay brother moves in and becomes best friends with his wife." Lionsgate Television is behind the project, which has a penalty attached. 3 Arts Entertainment's Dave Becky and Jonathan Berry and Artists First's Peter Principato and Maggie Haskins will also executive produce. SOMEONE LIKE YOU (FOX, New!) - David Gould has sold a high-concept drama to the network influenced by Japan's booming "rent-a-family" industry: "Led by a brilliant social researcher turned CEO, our team of hired multi-generational "Kin" shapeshift into spouses, siblings, parents, sons and daughters... filling the void in the most vulnerable moments, for someone like you." 20th Century Fox Television is producing. STAR (FOX) - Tammi Mac is set to recur on the series as Aunt Ginny, "GiGi Nixon's (Keke Palmer) overbearing aunt, manager and head of her "Famtourage" (family/entourage). She once had a singing career of her own, but spiraled due to her drug addiction." (Deadline.com)
SUPERGIRL (The CW) - Emmy winner Jon Cryer has been cast as DC Comics icon Lex Luthor on the series. The news comes more than 30 years after Cryer played Lenny Luthor (Lex's nephew) in the 1987 feature "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace." (@MrJonCryer)
SWEET TOOTH (Hulu, New!) - Writer/director Jim Mickle is spearheading a small screen take on Jeff Lemire's DC Comics series at the streaming service billed as "the coming-of-age fable of Gus, a boy/deer hybrid who leaves home to find the world ravaged by a cataclysmic event. He joins a ragtag family of hybrids and humans searching to find answers behind the event... ultimately discovering a vast conspiracy that forces him to question his very existence." The Warner Bros. Television-based project, which has a pilot order, will also be executive produced by Team Downey's Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell as well as Linda Moran. (Deadline.com)
UNCLE JOEY (FOX, New!) - Comedian Joey Diaz is set to star in a multi-camera comedy at the network about "a Cuban immigrant (Diaz) with a troubled past who's given a second chance at life when he moves his family to an upscale suburb. Intent on being the best family man possible, Joey works to raise his young daughter with old school values in today's rapidly changing world." Sivert Glarum and Michael Jamin are penning the half-hour, which has a penalty attached, for Lionsgate Television with all three executive producing alongside 3 Arts Entertainment's Michael Rotenberg, Jonathan Berry and Josh Lieberman.
