AMERICA, U.S.A. (CBS, New!) - Michael Kramer and Lilli Birdsell have set up a single-camera comedy at the Eye billed as "a young workplace ensemble set at a Colonial-times theme park called America, U.S.A." Alex Reid will direct and executive produce for CBS Television Studios with Kramer, Birdsell and Adam Peck serving as co-executive producers. (Deadline.com)
DARK CARGO (YouTube, New!) - Adam and Max Reid have scored a pilot order from the streaming service and Entertainment One for a new drama "described as a high-octane, cliffhanger-driven, neo-noir thriller set in the big rig cab of Joe Dobbs as he traverses the darkest nights of his life. What begins as a random encounter with a disturbed stranger turns into a race against time, the police, and even more malevolent forces. All the while, Joe just wants to get back to his family." Red Hour Productions' Ben Stiller and Nicky Weinstock will also executive produce alongside Counterfeit Pictures' Dan Bennett, Shane Corkery, and Anton Leo; as well as SEVEN24 Films' Tom Cox and Jordy Randall. FIRST WIVES CLUB (Paramount Network) - The upcoming small screen take on the 1996 feature film will now roll out on fellow Viacom sibling BET this January. (Deadline.com)
GREAT, THE (Hulu) - Gwilym Lee has landed a role on the drama pilot as Grigor, "the best friend and confidant of Russian emperor Peter (Nicholas Hoult)," while Matt Shakman has been confirmed as directing from a script by Tony McNamara. (Deadline.com)
LONG GAME, THE (ABC, New!) - Writer Chadd Gindin and director Randall Einhorn are set to team for a single-camera comedy at the Alphabet about "a family of scam artists led by Loni - who, 16 years into being a mother, decides it's time for her to be a good one. She tries to get her family to go straight despite a husband who still slips, a lifetime of bad examples that the kids won't let her forget and no idea how to accomplish this in a society that seems to have embraced the morally gray area she's trying to get them away from." They'll executive produce the half-hour via their ABC Studios-based companies Gizmotech Industries Incorporated and Randall Einhorn Films. (Deadline.com)
MIDNIGHT'S CHILDREN (Netflix) - Vishal Bhardwaj (Haider) has been tapped as showrunner and executive producer of the streaming service's small screen take on Sir Salman Rushdie's seminal work of fiction. (Deadline.com)
OTHERWORLD (CBS, New!) - Brian and Mark Gunn have sold a supernatural drama to the Eye about a young woman, "who after discovering that she has the ability to communicate with spirits, is drawn into the world of the paranormal where she partners with a rag-tag team of eccentric ghost hunters to investigate hauntings and help the dead find the closure they need to cross over to the other side." CBS Television Studios is behind the hour, which is based on Leonora Desar's article "The Secret Life of a Ghost Hunter" on Narrative.ly. Rideback's Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore will executive produce alongside the Gunns with Noah Rosenberg as a co-executive producer. (Variety.com)
PRISM (NBC, New!) - Writer/director Daniel Barnz has booked a potential drama at the Peacock billed as "a provocative exploration of a murder trial in which every episode is told through the perspective of a different person involved." Universal Television is behind the hour with We're Not Brothers Productions' Daniel and Ben Barnz and Carol Mendelsohn Productions' Carol Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz all set to executive produce. QUEEN SUGAR/RED LINE (OWN/CBS) - Ava DuVernay has signed a multi-year overall deal with Warner Bros. Television, home to her OWN series and the midseason CBS drama. The deal, which begins in January, is reportedly valued in the $100 million range. (Deadline.com)
