AVENUE 5 (HBO) - Nikki Amuka-Bird is the latest to score a role on Armando Iannucci's comedy pilot as Rav Mulcair, "head of Judd Mission Control on Earth. She's extremely intelligent but frustrated and exhausted by lack of control. Intense and slightly odd, Rav is racked with guilt over having sent her two best friends into space in an attempt to fix their failing marriage." (Deadline.com)
BLUFF CITY LAW (NBC) - Jimmy Smits is set to star in the drama pilot, which "follows the lawyers of an elite Memphis firm that specializes in the most controversial landmark civil rights cases. Led by legendary lawyer Elijah Strait (Smits) and his brilliant daughter, Sydney Keller (Caitlin McGee), they take on the toughest David-and-Goliath cases while navigating their complicated relationship." (Deadline.com)
DYNASTY (The CW) - Nicollette Sheridan, who plays Alexis Carrington, is departing the series to focus on some personal family responsibilities. The actress released a statement saying: "Working on the 'Dynasty' reboot and reprising the iconic role of Alexis has been thoroughly enjoyable, but the chance to spend precious time with my terminally ill mother is more important to me right now. I am profoundly grateful to Mark Pedowitz (The CW) and David Stapf (CBS) for graciously allowing me to return to Los Angeles to be with her, and I wish them and everyone associated with the show nothing but continued success. I am hopeful that my fans will embrace my successor with as much passion as they embraced me." (TVLine.com)
EXPANSE, THE (Amazon) - Rosa Gilmore, Keon Alexander and Jess Salgueiro are all bound for the show's fourth season. Gilmore will play Lucia Mazur, "one of the Belter refugees who have staked their claim to a new Earth-like planet on the other side of the Ring Gates." Alexander plays "a wily and charismatic Belter faction leader"; and Salgueiro portrays "a cynical corporate security officer." (Deadline.com)
FILTHY RICH (FOX) - Kim Cattrall, Aubrey Dollar, Corey Cott, Benjamin Levy Aguilar and Mark L. Young are the first to be cast in the pilot, a Southern Gothic dramedy which revolves around two strong, sharp women who will go to any length to protect their loved ones and get their due. Cattrall will play Margaret Monroe, "the star of a hugely popular lifestyle TV show and the creator of a conservative TV network that she runs with her husband." Dollar plays her daughter Rose Monroe, "a sarcastic but kind-hearted clothing designer who yearns to be real and find her own voice apart from her family." Cott is her brother Eric Monroe, "the Senior VP of Operations at the conservative Christian Sunshine Network"; with Aguilar as Antonio Rivera, "a tattooed, up-and-coming boxer and single dad who finds himself wondering if a life with his new family in New Orleans might be the best thing for his toddler"; and Young is Jason Conley, "an attractive, loyal young man who runs a weed business at a ranch in Colorado." (Deadline.com)
LET'S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER (FOX) - Richard Roxburgh, Madeline Wise and Usman Ally are the latest addition to the drama pilot, a structurally inventive dramedy, in which the entire first season takes place over the course of single night at a wedding. He'll play Nigel, "Lily's (Andie MacDowell) ex-husband, a legendary British rock-star who tries to save the world through music and has a weakness for supermodels." Wise then is "the quirky and pessimistic Poppy, the exceedingly blunt daughter of Nigel and Lily"; and Ally is Julian, "a roguish doctor who doesn't act like one." (Deadline.com)
LOCKE & KEY (Netflix) - Felix Mallard has been cast in a recurring role on the upcoming series as Lucas Caravaggio, "a charming teenager in the town of Matheson whose exposure to magic leads to serious complications." (Variety.com)
SISTERS (FOX) - Brittany Snow has scored the lead role on the network's import of the Australian series, in which only child Julia Beckley (Snow) has her life turned upside down when it's revealed that her father, a pioneering Nobel Prize-winning fertility doctor, used his own sperm to conceive dozens of children over the course of his career. Reeling from this explosive revelation, Julia discovers two new sisters -- her former best friend and an ex-Olympic athlete. Against all odds, the women attempt to form an untraditional family and lean on each other as they grapple with their own identity crises. (Deadline.com)
STUMPTOWN (ABC) - Cobie Smulders has signed on for the lead role in the drama pilot, about Dex Parios, "a strong, assertive, and unapologetically sharp-witted Army veteran working as a P.I. in Portland, OR. With a complicated personal history and only herself to rely on, she solves other people's messes with a blind eye toward her own." (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED GREMLINS PROJECT (WarnerMedia OTT, New!) - Tze Chun is spearheading an animated series based on the film franchise for WarnerMedia's upcoming streaming service. The project is reportedly said to be "a period piece that would follow Mr. Wing, the Chinese grandfather played in the films by Keye Luke, as a young man as he goes on adventures with the friendly Mogwai Gizmo." Warner Bros. Television and Amblin Television are co-producing. (Variety.com)
