BOSSY/WORK WIFE (ABC) - The Alphabet has passed on its two filmed comedy pilots. Lucy Liu starred in the multi-camera former, about a diva boss with no patience for working parents who adopts a baby and has a change of heart, casting her mother-of-three assistant as an unlikely mentor and upending the office dynamics. The single-camera latter featured Angelique Cabral and Tone Bell as a male-female team whose professional success, personal friendship and ability to share deodorant makes their lives work. BUCKTOWN (ABC, New!) - Emily Wilson has scored a pilot order from the Alphabet for a multi-camera comedy which follows Amy, "who, after being dumped by her boyfriend and kicked out of her apartment on the eve of a big promotion, finds refuge at her mom's house in the blue-collar neighborhood where she grew up. Amy reconnects with her teenage niece living there due to her sister's latest rehab stint and resolves to stay when she realizes that her mom and niece aren't quite equipped to go it alone." sara + tom's Tom Werner and Sara Gilbert are also on board to executive produce for ABC Signature; as are Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment's Marc Provissiero and Mandy Summers. CHAPPELLE'S SHOW (Comedy Central) - The sketch comedy series has returned to Netflix after the comedian's "longstanding contract dispute with Comedy Central owner ViacomCBS over licensing and royalty issues" has been resolved. (Deadline.com)
CSI: VEGAS (CBS) - Paula Newsome, Matt Lauria and Mel Rodriguez have all been cast in the William Petersen/Jorja Fox-led revival series, which is on track for a straight-to-series order. Newsome will reportedly play Maxine, "the new head of the Vegas Crime Lab. A former basketball coach, she is a top-flight scientist and a leader in the field of genetics. Recently divorced, she struggles with her son's opioid addiction." Lauria then is Josh, "a Level III CSI who is typically the lead investigator on cases, and has a knack for crime scene reconstruction. Vegas born and bred, he comes from a family of small-time crooks and scammers." And Rodriguez is Hugo, "who took over as Head Medical Examiner three years ago. He has an endless fascination with the bodies that find their way onto his slab, and the morgue is his happy place." (Deadline.com)
DR. DEATH (Peacock) - Carrie Preston has boarded the true-crime limited series as "defense attorney Robbie McClung to Joshua Jackson's character Dr. Duntsch." (Deadline.com)
GOD'S FAVORITE IDIOT (Netflix) - Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone's upcoming comedy series - in which "mid level tech support employee Clark Thompson (Falcone) finds love with co-worker Amily Luck (McCarthy) at exactly the same time he becomes the unwitting messenger of God" - has cast Yanic Truesdale as Chamuel, "the new divine lower-ranking archangel in town"; Usman Ally as Mohsin Raza, who "has chosen a life of integrity over financial success or a leadership position"; Ana Scotney as Wendy, "a giver - of presents, advice, and anything she thinks might help another person"; Chris Sandiford as Tom, "Arresta Tech's resident insecure loudmouth"; and Steve Mallory as Frisbee, "a low-level, middle manager." IN TREATMENT/INDUSTRY (HBO) - Jami O'Brien signed a two-year overall deal with the pay channel where she'll develop new series projects on an exclusive basis. She'll also join "Industry" as an executive producer and "In Treatment" as a consulting producer. (Deadline.com)
SUPERGIRL (The CW) - Titular star Melissa Benoist has signed an overall deal with Warner Bros. Television where she'll develop new series project via her newly launched production company, Three Things Productions. (Deadline.com)
