BIG VAPE (Netflix, New!) - R.J. Cutler has laned a new documentary series at the streamer based on Jamie Ducharme's new book, subtitled "The Incendiary Rise of Juul," which will "chronicle the rise of Juul from a scrappy tech start-up to a multibillion-dollar tobacco company that at one point controlled 72% of the market. This will be no puff piece: Juul's rise, and the high nicotine concentration and flavored products, helped spark what top health authorities labeled an epidemic of youth addiction." Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of Amblin Television; Elise Pearlstein and Trevor Smith of This Machine; and Ian Orefice and Rebecca Teitel of Time Studios will also executive produce. (Deadline.com)
CARMICHAEL SHOW, THE (NBC) - Danielle Sanchez-Witzel has signed a multi-year overall deal with Netflix where she'll develop new series projects on an exclusive basis. (Variety.com)
EXPATRIATES, THE (Amazon) - Jack Huston has booked a lead role on the streamer's Janice Y.K. Lee adaptation as David Starr, "who has long lived in the shadow of his impressive wife Hilary. GRAND ARMY (Netflix) - The streamer has nixed the teen drama after one season. (Variety.com)
LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (Showtime) - Madison Taylor Baez, Kevin Carroll, Jacob Buster and Ian Foreman have all scored roles on the drama pilot, based on the novel-turned-feature of the same name. Baez will play the lead role of the daughter, Eleanor: "After she was bitten by a mysterious creature, Eleanor and her father, Mark, were forced to live in the shadows and commit shameful acts to keep her alive. When she returns to New York City, Eleanor meets a friend who reignites her desire to regain her humanity, even as her condition brings out an animalistic power." Carroll then is Zeke Dawes, "the charismatic owner of a successful restaurant and one of Mark's oldest confidants as well as one of the few people who know about Eleanor's condition"; with Buster as Peter, "who suffers the same affliction as Eleanor; when his father tests a potential cure on him that backfires, a terrifying monster is unleashed"; and Foreman as Isaiah, "the quiet, sensitive, and small for his age kid who loves magic and is an easy target for the other boys at school; he does find a true friend in Eleanor, but has no idea the threat she poses." (THR.com)
LOVE AND DEATH (HBO Max) - Patrick Fugit has booked a lead role on the Elizabeth Olsen/Jesse Plemons-led limited series as Pat Montgomery. No other specifics were given. (Deadline.com)

NIGERIAN PRINCESS, THE (Amazon, New!) - Ziwe is developing a new comedy at the streamer which follows Zoe, "a wise-beyond-her-years 20-something who, debilitated by student debt, partners with a known grifter in a desperate bid to achieve the American Dream. The two prep school grads make an unlikely alliance all while secretly plotting to scam each other." Will Graham and Hailey Wierengo of Field Trip Productions and Janelle Monae, Chuck Lightning, Mikael Moore, and Nate Wonder of Wondaland Pictures will also executive produce. (Variety.com)
PORTER, THE (BET+) - Oluniké Adeliyi and Loren Lott have both scored roles on the upcoming drama. Adeliyi will play Queenie, "the seductive and sinister Chicago crime boss whose lavish lifestyle and power appeals to Junior, but at what cost?" And Lott is the headstrong Lucy, "a talented performer who pursues the spotlight as she battles shadeism and a musical instinct out of step with the times." Aml Ameen, Ronnie Rowe Jr. and Mouna Traoré also star with co-creators Arnold Pinnock and Bruce Ramsay as Glenford and Dinger, respectively. (THR.com)
REAL MAGIC MIKE, THE (HBO Max) - "Magic Mike" star Adam Rodriguez has signed on to the unscripted competition series, which will transform a group of men into real-life Magic Mikes, as mentor and executive producer. (Deadline.com)
THIS IS MY AMERICA (HBO Max, New!) - Jessica Watson is developing a small screen take on Kim Johnson's award-winning fiction novel at the streamer, which "follows 17-year-old Tracy Beaumont, a budding social activist who fights not just to save her father from death row, but also to clear her older brother's name when he becomes the number one suspect in the murder of a popular white girl at their school." Picturestart's Erik Feig, Chloe Dan, Lucy Kitada and Royce Reeves-Darby; and Fake Empire's Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Lis Rowinski will executive produce alongside Johnson. (Variety.com)
