IMDb TV Original True-Crime Docuseries "Bug Out" Premieres March 4

Four-part mystery untangles web of lies around the largest known insect heist in history

CULVER CITY, California - January 25, 2022 - IMDb TV announced today the March 4 premiere date for Bug Out, an unexpected true crime docuseries that delves into the mystery of the largest known live insect heist in history. The docuseries will be available to stream exclusively on IMDb TV, Amazon's premium free streaming service, in both the U.S. and the UK starting Friday, March 4.

Bug Out holds the magnifying glass to one of the most bizarre crimes in recent history: The theft of $50,000 worth of living bugs from the Philadelphia Insectarium. As detectives with the Philadelphia Police Department investigate, they find themselves entering an unknown and shadowy subculture. Discovering that the Insectarium may not be the wholesome family museum it appears to be, viewers will be taken into a criminal underworld like no other. This four-part investigative documentary series dives into this whodunnit through exclusive interviews with insect collectors, bug smugglers, and the law enforcement agencies charged with looking into this case.

From The Cinemart (LuLaRich, Fyre Fraud, The Pharmacist), Bug Out is executive produced by Jenner Furst, Julia Willoughby Nason, and Michael Gasparro, and directed by Ben Feldman.

IMDb TV uniquely offers premium Originals on a free streaming service, including the recently launched second season of the spy thriller Alex Rider and the second season of the sports docuseries UNINTERRUPTED's Top Class: The Life and Times of the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers. Spanning drama and comedy, scripted and unscripted, additional IMDb TV Originals include the heist drama Leverage: Redemption; the court program Judy Justice; Bosch: Legacy; the comedy series Sprung; new home design series the Untitled Jeff Lewis Project; On Call, a half-hour drama from executive producer Dick Wolf; and the holiday special Play-Doh Squished, hosted by Sarah Hyland.

About The Cinemart

Since 2011, The Cinemart has repeatedly examined and illuminated core issues facing humanity with award-winning programming. The company exposed racial extremism in the heartland with Welcome to Leith, which premiered in competition at Sundance and was nominated for an Emmy. Working with Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter, The Cinemart reached hundreds of millions of people, raising awareness for criminal justice reform with Time: The Kalief Browder Story and tracking the inception of the BLM movement in Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story. These seminal projects earned the team a Peabody Award and multiple Emmy nominations and have stood the test of time, frequently topping essential viewing lists for social justice and racial equity.

In 2019, The Cinemart partnered with Hulu to release Fyre Fraud, a true-con about social media influencers and a failed music festival in the Bahamas. A stunt release authored and executed by The Cinemart made the film a smash hit, garnering an Emmy nomination for "Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program." In 2020 the company released The Pharmacist for Netflix, which showcased one man's 20-year journey to solve his son's murder and combat the opioid epidemic.
