BABYLON 5 (REBOOT SERIES) (The CW) - Creator J. Michael Straczynski took to his Patreon page with the news the network has passed on ordering a pilot for his proposed reboot series. Nevertheless, the project is being rolled for next season, keeping it in active development. (Patreon.com)
GOTHAM KNIGHTS (The CW) - The network's latest DC Comics adaptation is heading to pilot, in which "in the wake of Bruce Wayne's murder, his rebellious adopted son forges an unlikely alliance with the children of Batman's enemies when they are all framed for killing the Caped Crusader." Writers Chad Fiveash, James Stoteraux and Natalie Abrams and director Danny Cannon are behind the project with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden also executive producing for Warner Bros. IMMIGRANT (Hulu) - Quentin Plair and Nicola Peltz are the latest bound for the Kumail Nanjiani-led limited series, which has also added Matt Shakman as director/executive producer. Plair will play Otis, "the sole black dancer at Chippendales' LA outpost until a dramatic falling-out with its owner Steve Banerjee (Nanjiani) over the club's questionable admission policies regarding race." And Peltz will portray Dorothy Stratten: "Both sexy and wholesome, Dorothy Stratten, who's managed by her sleazy husband Paul Snider, was a Playboy Playmate, actress, and, least likely of all, a key player in the founding of the male strip club Chippendales." Shakman replaces the previously announced Ramin Bahrani in advance of the series' production. (Deadline.com)
LA LAW (ABC) - John Harlan Kim has been cast in the sequel series pilot as Chad Park, "an up-and-coming attorney at the firm described as a “shark-in-training” whose ambition sometimes gets ahead of his ethical standards. Nevertheless, he's a brilliant attorney who takes on his very first murder trial and must devise an inventive legal strategy when his client drops a bombshell in open court." (Variety.com)
UNTITLED FOOTBALL DRAMA PROJECT (Showtime, New!) - Former quarterback Tony Romo, actor Chace Crawford and producer Drew Comins are set to team for a potential drama at the pay channel which "follows a fictitious first family of football and the players, coaches, and power brokers behind the high stakes world of America's biggest professional sport." The search is underway for a writer for the project, which is set up at Comins's Entertainment One-based Creative Engine Entertainment. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED SCOTT PRENDERGAST PROJECT (CBS, New!) - Scott Prendergast has scored a pilot order from the Eye for a new drama in which "a talented but directionless private investigator who is the black sheep of his family begrudgingly agrees to work as the in-house investigator for his overbearing mother, a successful attorney reeling from the recent dissolution of her marriage." Phil McGraw, Jay McGraw and Julia Eisenmann of Stage 29 Productions will also executive produce for CBS Studios. (Variety.com)
WALKER: INDEPENDENCE (The CW) - The netlet has given a pilot order to the "Walker" prequel series, "set in the late 1800s and follows Abby Walker, an affluent Bostonian whose husband is murdered before her eyes while on their journey out West. On her quest for revenge, Abby crosses paths with Hoyt Rawlins, a lovable rogue in search of purpose. Abby and Hoyt's journey takes them to Independence, Texas, where they encounter diverse, eclectic residents running from their own troubled pasts and chasing their dreams." Seamus Kevin Fahey and Anna Fricke behind the project with Jared Padalecki, Laura Terry, Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore also executive producing for CBS Studios. (Deadline.com)
WINCHESTERS, THE (The CW) - The "Supernatural" prequel series - "centered on Dean and Sam Winchester's parents - John and Mary - and tells the epic love story of how they met and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world" - has likewise been ordered to pilot. Robbie Thompson penned the script for Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios and is executive producing alongside Jensen Ackles and Danneel Ackles. (Deadline.com)
ZORRO (The CW) - The series, a gender-swapped reimagining of the classic masked vigilante character, has received an order for six additional scripts. Robert Rodriguez, Rebecca Rodriguez and Sean Tretta are behind the CBS Studios-based project, with Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, Rodney Ferrell, Geoff Clark, Eric Bromberg, John Gertz and Jay Weisleder also among the executive producers. (Deadline.com)
