Apple Original Films and Nike first-look deal announcement
- Apple Original Films has landed a first-look feature deal with Nike's Waffle Iron Entertainment and Makeready to develop and produce sports films.
- Under the deal, the companies will team up to deliver a slate of films to inspire the next generation of athletes and celebrate the power of sport.
- Momentum around Apple Original feature films continues to grow since the debut of Apple TV+ just over two years ago. Siân Heder's acclaimed film "CODA" made history as the first film with a predominantly Deaf cast to win an Academy Award for Best Picture, and Apple also nabbed the Emmy Award for Outstanding Documentary for its original documentary "Boys State." Apple Original Films has premiered blockbuster films including Tom Hanks' global hit, Academy Award-nominated film "Greyhound," as well as Hanks' follow up project, "Finch," which set audience records and debuted as the #1 movie ever on Apple TV+, following its premiere last year. Apple TV+ is also currently developing the untitled Formula One racing film set to star Academy Award winner Brad Pitt, helmed by "Top Gun: Maverick" director Joseph Kosinski.
- Waffle Iron Entertainment is a content studio within Nike dedicated to the development and production of premium sports entertainment.
- Makeready is an independent film and TV production company.
- Apple TV+'s sports slate also includes acclaimed and award-winning docuseries and documentaries featuring the real-life stories behind the biggest names in sports such as:
· "Greatness Code," revealing what truly drives the world's greatest athletes to succeed featuring Lindsey Vonn, Marcus Rashford, and Russell Wilson, and more
· The four-part Earvin "Magic" Johnson docuseries "They Call Me Magic"
· "The Long Game: Bigger Than Basketball" about NBA hopeful Makur Maker
· "Make or Break," following elite World Surf League competitors
· Soon to join this slate will be the recently announced feature documentary about seven-time Formula One world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton
· "The Dynasty" a new documentary event series about the New England Patriots, from Brian Grazer and Ron Howard's Imagine Documentaries, in association with NFL Films
Apple TV+ offers premium, compelling drama and comedy series, feature films, groundbreaking documentaries, and kids and family entertainment, and is available to watch across all your favorite screens. After its launch on November 1, 2019, Apple TV+ became the first all-original streaming service to launch around the world, and has premiered more original hits and received more award recognitions faster than any other streaming service in its debut. To date, Apple Original films, documentaries, and series have earned 245 wins and 963 award nominations and counting.
