BRUTALLY HONEST (CBS, New!) - Ashley Tisdale is set to star in a semi-autobiographical comedy for the Eye about "how having a baby can ruin, save, change, destroy and inspire your marriage... all before lunch." The single-camera project comes from Sarah Haskins and Emily Halpern and is set up at CBS Studios. All three will executive produce. (Deadline.com)
DEAD BOY DETECTIVES (HBO Max) - David Iacono will recur on the DC Comics drama as David the Demon, "a powerful and threatening demon who torments Crystal and the Dead Boys." (Deadline.com)
HELP ME RHONDA (NBC, New!) - Chrissy Metz is attached to star in a new drama which "centers on Rhonda Bird (Metz), a brash public defender, and Barbra Ann "Baby" Bird, the privileged teenage sister she never knew she had, who reluctantly take over their late father's private detective agency. While helping their father's former clients, they uncover the truth about who their father really was." The project, which has a penalty attached and is being developed concurrently for all NBCUniversal outlets, is based on the novel "2 Sisters Detective Agency" by James Patterson and Candice Fox with Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith penning the script. Bill Robinson, Patrick Santa, Nina Tassler, Denise Di Novi, Cathy Konrad and Lena Roklin will executive produce alongside the group for Luber Roklin Entertainment, James Patterson Entertainment, PatMa Productions, Tree Line Film and Universal Television. MANNER OF DEATH (CBS, New!) - Emily Silver has sold a new drama to the Eye which "tells the story of by-the-book Medical Examiner Amanda Bowman who, while fleeing her mysterious past, clashes with maverick Sheriff Luke Parker igniting a complex professional and personal relationship as they solve murders together. Amanda will also tackle how to do her job with the deck stacked against her." Dan Lin and Lindsey Liberatore of Rideback will also executive produce for CBS Studios. (Deadline.com)
SINKING SPRING (Apple TV+) - Kate Mulgrew has been cast in the upcoming drama as Theresa Bowers, "Ray's (Brian Tyree Henry) de facto mother who steps in to raise him as if he were her own child." (Variety.com)
SO HELP ME TODD (CBS) - Eliza Coupe will guest on the show's January 5 installment as Veronica, "the private eye/mentor who seduced and deceived Todd (Skylar Astin) two years ago, making him believe that they were equal partners in their detective agency when she was really setting him up to be the fall guy for her illegal wiretapping and forgery." SYMPATHIZER, THE (HBO) - Sandra Oh, Kieu Chinh and Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen are the latest additions to the Viet Thanh Nguyen adaptation. Oh will play Ms. Sofia Mori, "a liberated feminist who in the midst of a love triangle begins to awaken to the complexity of her own Asian American identity"; with Chinh as the Major's Mother, "homesick for Vietnam, she doesn't find an easy fit with her new circumstances, in contrast to her son who has jumped in feet first;" and Nguyen as Madame, "the General's wife and elegant and commanding matriarch who's desperate to keep her daughter modest and her husband from unraveling as they restart their lives as refugees." TOKYO VICE (HBO Max) - Aoi Takeya has been cast in the show's second season as Jason Oki, "a Japanese-American member of the US Foreign Service who gets pulled into Jake Adelstein (Ansel Elgort) and his colleagues' hunt to uncover the secrets of yakuza crime lord Shinzo Tozawa (Ayumi Tanida)." TWIN FLAMES (Hulu, New!) - Mandy Moore is set to star in a proposed new drama at the streamer which "tells the true story of two women who find themselves seduced by the online teachings of a couple who preach that every person has a soul mate called a "Twin Flame" and must do whatever it takes to be with that person. Desperate to find true love, these two are swept into the increasingly dangerous waters of the Twin Flame Universe." The project, inspired by the podcast of the same name, is being penned by Rebecca Addelman with Roll with the Punches Productions' Averie Joy Maikalima O Makua Huffine; The Walk Up Co.'s Adam Londy, Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger; and Wondery's Jen Sargent, Marshall Lewy and Aaron Hart also executive producing for 20th Television. UNTITLED KAGISO LEDIGA PROJECT (Freevee) - Imani Pullum has scored the lead role on the upcoming drama, about 15-year-old Ella, "a student at a public school in Oakland, California. Gifted with a flowing tongue, Ella is a weaver of yarns. A skateboarder with a skillful street style, she is a firebrand - defiant and rebellious in nature. Arrested at a protest and facing serious jail time, Ella avoids incarceration thanks to her stepmother, Dianne, who has connections in high places. As part of the deal, Ella must leave her home in California and spend the remainder of her secondary education with her father and Dianne in Johannesburg, South Africa. Ella's world is turned upside down as she navigates a very different reality than the one she has known." (Deadline.com)
