Written by the creator of The Bridge and based on Astrid Lindgren's classic fantasy book, the captivating family saga Ronja, the Robber's Daughter, Season 1 debuts in the US on Thursday, November 21 with all six episodes. Called "The most irresistible incarnation yet" (The Guardian), the English-language series Rebus aired in the UK this summer on BBC One to rave reviews and more than 10 million streams on BBC iPlayer. Set in Edinburgh, the crime thriller reimagines the iconic character John Rebus as a younger Detective Sergeant, drawn into a violent criminal conflict that turns personal when his brother Michael, a former soldier, crosses the line into criminality. Rebus finds himself torn between protecting his brother and enforcing the law to bring Michael to justice. Rebus offers a fresh interpretation of the beloved character from Sir Ian Rankin's acclaimed detective novels, which have sold more than 30 million copies and been translated into 36 languages. Produced by Eleventh Hour Films for Viaplay, the six-part series is written by the award-winning Gregory Burke ('71) and is skillfully directed by BAFTA-winner Niall MacCormick (Complicit, The Victim) and Fiona Walton (Shetland, London Kills).
Written by Hans Rosenfeldt (creator of iconic Nordic series The Bridge and Marcella) and updated for fans of the fascinating fantasy worlds of Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings, Ronja, the Robber's Daughter, Season 1 is an adventure-filled story from beloved Swedish author Astrid Lindgren, who has sold more than 165 million books worldwide (the "Pippi Longstocking" series). Considered one of the most ambitious Nordic series ever, Season 1 reached Netflix's Top 10 in 15 countries including France, the Nordics, Poland & the Netherlands and was the #1 TV series in Sweden. The enchanting, coming-of-age story follows the adventures of a young girl born into a band of robbers set in and around a fortress in medieval Scandinavia. As Ronja grows up, she braves the mystical forest teeming with both enchanting and fearsome creatures like the wile-wings and gray dwarfs. When Ronja befriends the young boy Birk from a rival gang of robbers, a vicious family feud ignites. Season 1 will be available both subtitled and dubbed in English.
