The premiere of Out of the Woods, a Hallmark Channel Original movie, came out with
a growl, leaving its competition in hibernation as it delivered a 2.6 HH coverage area rating with
1,785,000 homes becoming the highest rated ad-supported cable movie of the day, and the
second highest ad-supported movie of the week (Nielsen Media Research, 3/28-4/3/05).
The Original movie, which aired Saturday, April 2, 8-10 p.m., attracted nearly 3.4 million
unduplicated viewers Persons 2+ and was part of Hallmark Channel's third highest day ever and
highest week ever.
Competitively, "Out of the Woods" ranked #2 in HH Rating in the time period, and for
key demographics ranked #1 in W25-54 (1.6 rating) and #2 in A25-54 (1.2 rating) among all
59 ad-supported cable networks. In addition, Out of the Woods was the second highest
Hallmark Channel telecast in network history among HH delivery. It ranked among the top 5
all-time Hallmark Channel telecasts for each key demographic, notably #3 among A25-54
(955,000 viewers) and #4 among W25-54 (650,000 viewers).
"Out of the Woods" also showed impressive growth over its "Straight From the Heart"
lead-in (which averaged a solid 1.6 HH rating). It also tripled its 8-10p time period average in
W25-54 (+204%).
In Out of the Woods, seven-time Emmy Award-winner Edward Asner (Lou Grant)
stars as Jack Green, a sophisticated, spiritually-oriented global traveler with an ill-disguised
disdain for his small-minded, self-centered family. Persuaded by his mother (Mel Harris,
thirtysomething) to deliver legal papers to the distant patriarch, Jacks grandson Matt (Jason
London, Jason and the Argonauts) finds himself completely out of his comfort zone.
Marooned in the woods with the enigmatic old man, the by-the-numbers attorney is surprised
to discover that his seemingly perfect life might not be the one he actually wants to lead.
