CBS Continues Its Winning Ways Posting Its 10th Consecutive Weekly Win
in Viewers (Every Week This Season)
With its 10th consecutive weekly win (every week this season), CBS heads into the final three days of the November sweep the Number One network for both the Sweep and season in viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, according to national Nielsen ratings for the week ending Nov. 27, week 10 of the 2005-2006 television season.
CBS is projected to win the November sweep in viewers (by about three million viewers) and adults 25-54 (by approximately 0.5 rating points). In adults 18-49, CBS is first through Sunday, Nov. 27 (+0.1 rating point ahead of ABC).
In one of the most competitive months of the year, COLD CASE, GHOST WHISPERER, OUT OF PRACTICE, CLOSE TO HOME and 48 HOURS MYSTERY achieved series high ratings while CSI, CSI: NY, SURVIVOR: GUATEMALA and NUMB3RS posted season highs.
The CBS SUNDAY MOVIE, with the event mini-series "Category 7: Day of Destruction" and the "Hallmark Hall of Fame" presentation of "Silver Bells" enjoyed some of its strongest performances of the season in viewers and key demographics.
The 39TH ANNUAL CMA AWARDS and I WALK THE LINE: A NIGHT FOR JOHNNY CASH also aided CBS's November sweep with winning performances.
SWEEP HIGHLIGHTS TO DATE:
� On Friday, Nov. 4, GHOST WHISPERER's audience of 12.79 million was a series high.
� On Wednesday, Nov. 9, CSI: NY had its best household (12.3/20) and viewer (19.23m) deliveries of the season and highest since 9/29/04. It also achieved its highest rating in adults 18-49 (6.5/17) since 11/17/04.
� On Thursday, Nov. 10, CSI delivered the largest audience for the series and any broadcast this season (29.45m).
� On Monday, Nov. 21, OUT OF PRACTICE had its best delivery in viewers (13.26m) and adults 25-54 (5.6/12).
� On Thursday, Nov. 24, SURVIVOR: GUATEMALA -- THE MAYA EMPIRE delivered its most watched episode of the season (19.54m).
� On Friday, Nov. 25, CLOSE TO HOME posted series high viewer delivery (11.96m).
� On Friday, Nov. 25, NUMB3RS delivered its season audience (12.67m)
� On Saturday, 48 HOURS MYSTERY won its time period in households (7.2/13), viewers (10.90m), adults 25-54 (3.9/10) and adults 18-49 (3.0/09) with its best delivery since it was re-launched in September 2004 in households, viewers and adults 25-54 and the season's best performance in adults 18-49.
� On Sunday, Nov. 27, COLD CASE delivered its most watched episode ever (19.37m) and matched its all-time best delivery in adults 25-54 (6.3/13).
� On Sunday, Nov. 27, the CBS SUNDAY MOVIE ("Hallmark Hall of Fame" presentation of "Silver Bells") delivered 16.10 million viewers, the best delivery in viewers since 2/20/05 ("Stone Cold").
� Based on Monday (Nov. 28) fast nationals, THE KING OF QUEENS and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER both achieved season high ratings in viewers and key demographics while TWO AND A HALF MEN delivered its highest adult 18-49 rating of the season.
While CBS's freshman programs OUT OF PRACTICE, GHOST WHISPERER and OUT OF PRACTICE all had series high deliveries during the November sweep, CRIMINAL MINDS finished in its most competitive position to a first-run "Lost" in viewers and key demographics (Nov. 9) and has established itself as Wednesday's top new program.
Four of CBS's freshman series are also improving the year ago time periods. GHOST WHISPERER has improved its year ago time period by +35% in viewers (11.40m vs. 8.44m) and +35% in adults 18-49 (3.1 vs. 2.3), CRIMINAL MINDS has boosted its time period by +28% in viewers (13.38m vs. 10.45m), CLOSE TO HOME, since moving to Friday, is up +17% in viewers (11.82m vs. 10.13m) and +48% in adults 18-49 (3.1 vs. 2.1) and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER is up +6% in adults 18-49 (3.6 vs. 3.4) versus last year.
THE WEEK (WEEK 10):
For the week in viewers, CBS (14.27m) topped ABC (11.41m), NBC (9.18m) and FOX (9.00m). This is the first time one network has won the first ten weeks of the television season in viewers since NBC won weeks 1-10 in the 1988-89 season. Season-to-date, CBS (13.48m) leads ABC (10.98m), NBC (9.34m) and FOX (8.60m).
For the week in households, CBS (8.9/15) enjoyed a +25% advantage over ABC (7.1/12), +53% over NBC (5.8/10) and +62% over FOX (5.5/09). Season-to-date, CBS is first in households (8.7/14), outpacing ABC by +23% (7.1/11), NBC by +40% (6.2/10) and FOX by +58% (5.5/09).
In key demographics, CBS was first in adults 25-54 (5.2/13) for the eighth consecutive week and second in adults 18-49 (4.1/11, -0.2 behind ABC). Season-to-date, CBS is first in adults 25-54 (5.2/12) and tied for first in adults 18-49 (4.1/11, with ABC).
� THE KING OF QUEENS was first in households (7.3/11), viewers (10.98m) and adults 25-54 (4.5/11) for the 9th consecutive week and first in adults 18-49 (3.7/10) for the 8th time in 9 weeks.
� HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was first in households (6.8/10) and viewers (10.29m) for the fifth consecutive week. HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was also first in adults 25-54 (4.5/10) and adults 18-49 (3.6/09) for the fourth time in five weeks.
� TWO AND A HALF MEN was first in households (10.1/15), viewers (15.75m), adults 25-54 (6.6/14) and second in adults 18-49 (5.2/12) behind ABC's football coverage.
� OUT OF PRACTICE was second in households (8.8/13), viewers (13.26m) and adults 25-54 (5.6/12) -- all behind ABC's football. This is OUT OF PRACTICE's best delivery in households, viewers and adults 25-54 and matches the second best adults 18-49 (4.3/10) performance.
� CSI: MIAMI was first in households (12.7/20), viewers (19.36m), adults 25-54 (8.1/18) and adults 18-49 (6.6/16). CSI: MIAMI was the night's Number One program in households, viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54.
� NCIS was first in households (10.2/16), viewers (16.43m) and adults 25-54 (5.4/13) for the 9th consecutive time this season.
� CRIMINAL MINDS was second in households (8.3/13), viewers (12.83m), adults 25-54 (4.7/11) and adults 18-49 (3.5/09). CRIMINAL MINDS was in its second most competitive position behind a first-run episode of "Lost" in households, viewers, adults 18-49 and adults 25-54.
� SURVIVOR: GUATEMALA -- THE MAYA EMPIRE THANKSGIVING (S) (8:04-9:04 PM) won its 8:00-9:00PM time period in households (10.6/21), viewers (19.54m), adults 25-54 (7.9/22), adults 18-49 (6.6/20) and adults 18-34 (4.6/16). This is the most watched episode of SURVIVOR: GUATEMALA this season.
� GHOST WHISPERER won its time period in households (7.3/13), viewers (12.25m), adults 25-54 (4.6/13), adults 18-49 (3.4/11) and adults 18-34 (2.1/08). This matches GHOST WHISPERER's best adults 18-34 performance, is the second best delivery in viewers and adults 18-49 and matches the second best delivery in adults 25-54.
� CLOSE TO HOME won its time period in households (7.4/13), viewers (11.96m), adults 25-54 (4.2/11) and adults 18-49 (3.0/09). CLOSE TO HOME posted series high delivery in viewers.
� NUMB3RS was first for the 10th consecutive week in households (7.9/14), viewers (12.67m), adults 25-54 (4.7/12) and first for the 9th time in 10 weeks in adults 18-49 (3.5/10). This is NUMB3RS best delivery in viewers for the third consecutive week since 1/28/05, the program's time period premiere.
� 48 HOURS MYSTERY won its time period in households (7.2/13), viewers (10.90m), adults 25-54 (3.9/10) and adults 18-49 (3.0/09). This is 48 HOURS MYSTERY's best delivery since it was rebranded in September 2004 in households, viewers and adults 25-54 and the season's best performance in adults 18-49.
� COLD CASE was first in households (12.2/18), viewers (19.37m) and second in adults 25-54 (6.3/13). This is COLD CASE's all-time best delivery in households and viewers, matches the all-time best delivery in adults 25-54 and matches the second best delivery in adults 18-49 (4.5/10).
� CBS SUNDAY MOVIE ("Hallmark Hall of Fame" Presentation of "Silver Bells") was second in households (10.3/15), viewers (16.10m), adults 25-54 (5.2/10) and adults 18-49 (3.7/08). This is the CBS SUNDAY MOVIE's best delivery in households and viewers since 2/20/05 ("Stone Cold").
