MTV2 Ends Year By Setting All-Time Ratings Highs For All Four Quarters In 2005 Among P12-34
New York, NY December 22, 2005 MTV2 ended a tremendously successful 2005 with its highest rated year in its history among P12-34 and among Males 12-24. Now in over 58 million homes, MTV2 reached new ratings milestones in channel history during each of the four quarters this year. The fourth quarter also marked the 12th consecutive quarter where MTV2 has posted growth versus the prior year among P12-34. MTV2 also closed out the year with ratings increases among P12-34 by 20% and among Males 12-24 by 29% versus 2004. In addition, this years success also translated over to MTV2.com, where total page views increased by over 97%, nearly doubling last year's total.
2005 was a banner year for MTV2 and our record breaking ratings are a testament to the impact and connection that weve made with our audience by delivering a great mix of music and irreverent programming, said David Cohn, GM, MTV2. We kicked off the year by unleashing a whole new innovative vision and environment for the channel and in the upcoming year, we will continue to support the type of artists and dynamic, original lifestyle content that the MTV2 audience craves."
Throughout 2005, music continued to fuel the core of the programming at MTV2. The network found new ways to present and introduce music to the audience as well as brought back several music franchises including: MTV2s $2Bill concert series brings fans the hottest live performances from rock to hip-hop four times a year including this past years performers: My Chemical Romance and the Used, Fat Joe and Friends - TI, Juvenile, Mike Jones, Paul Wall, and Ja Rule, System of a Down and Kanye West; Rhythm and Reggaeton, a half-hour weekly video block that highlights the hottest videos and artists on the exploding Reggaeton music including Daddy Yankee, Tego Calderon, Pitbull and Don Omar; MTV2 and MTV News My Block series sets its sights on specific cities such as Houston, Memphis, Miami, Atlanta, explores the hometown artists, their burgeoning hip-hop scene, and deep musical roots; Video Mods, the series that morphs music videos and video games into an entirely new music viewing experience and showcases some of todays most popular video game characters and environments as they perform videos by artists of all genres; Finally, every weekend, MTV2 presents the best music from the worlds of cutting edge hip-hop, rock, and heavy metal through its three signature music blocks Sucker Free Sunday which is MTV2s biggest franchise and hip-hop music powerhouse featuring the best hip-hop videos, behind the scenes looks at the making of videos and albums, interviews with the hottest artists and the future stars of hip-hop. Subterranean, hosted by MTV2 VJ Jim Shearer, plays the newest rock from the US and across the pond. Headbangers Ball takes heavy metal into the 21st Century by highlighting the best classic and new metal music and artists.
In order to deliver programming that perfectly complements the rich music heritage of the channel and reflects the subversive attitude and digitally savvy nature of our audience, MTV2 debuted The Sic Em Friday programming block which featured a lineup of shows that infused the raw and rebellious energy of the MTV2 audience including: Wonder Showzen, which is an absurd, smart and hilariously brilliant comedy/variety show that spoofs childrens television to create an entirely unique adult comedy with its team of puppets, kids, and cartoons; Wildboyz takes viewers into the wild with the outrageous adventures of Steve-O and Chris Pontius as they visit destinations in far off lands; Team Sanchez documents the amazing story of three Welsh lads and one warped Londoner whose juvenile behavior and utter disregard for personal safety leads the boys to continually top themselves in an ongoing pursuit of twisted humor; and finally, the latest and upcoming addition to the MTV2 family, The Andy Milonakis Show, which joins the Sic Em Friday lineup in 2006, follows Andy, his friends, neighbors, special celebrity guests, and even his dog, as they engage in bizarre and surreal antics. The shows hardcore, devoted fan base is the perfect match for the subversive nature of the MTV2 audience.
