Santa Monica, CA, March 31, 2008 � Hip hop dance dominated Thursday night television as the live finale of MTV's smash hit series "Randy Jackson Presents: America's Best Dance Crew" served all broadcast and cable competition with a 4.34 rating among P12-34, averaging 7.9 million total viewers (P2+). In a first for cable network, more than 38 million votes were cast for a single event on a reality series. With the #1 finish by "America's Best Dance Crew," MTV capped off a stellar ratings week which began with the record season premiere of "The Hills" plus big season finales of "Making the Band 4" and "Real World/Road Rules Challenges: The Gauntlet III." MTV leads with #1 and #2 P12-34 cable telecasts in 2008-to-date with "The Hills" season premiere 5.03 rating and "America's Best Dance Crew" finale.
MTV recently announced that "Randy Jackson Presents: America's Best Dance Crew" will return for a second season, and is currently inviting dance crews around the country to submit their video submissions at http://dance.mtv.com. To cast for the show, viewers can watch and rate all the best moves to help influence who gets on next season. Regional casting calls will be announced shortly.
Viewers tuned in to see San Diego crew JabbaWockeeZ crowned "America's Best Dance Crew" and set a record for the series as the high-rated telecast of the season among P12-34. The full season of the dance competition series posted an average 2.5 rating among P12-34 and reached 86.8 million total viewers (P2+), in which 38.4 million are from the core P12-34.
Each week, fans could vote online at http://dancecrew.mtv.com, via phone or text for their favorite crews. By extending the voting window from 29 hours to one week, 38.3 million votes by fans determined which of the two finalists � Status Quo or JabbaWockeeZ � would earn top honors as the best dance crew. Total votes cast during the season were 50.3 million.
Fan interest extended to consistent week-to-week digital growth as the series has remained MTV.com's top show since its debut, delivering an average +26% growth each week. For the Thursday night finale on March 27, the show pages on http://www.mtv.com received tremendous traffic and posted a +123% increase from the previous Thursday.
"Randy Jackson Presents: America's Best Dance Crew" premiered February 7, 2008 and is the first dance competition series for crews of 5-7 members rather than individual dancers. Hosted by Mario Lopez, the crews perform their creative and energetic dances for the judges JC Chasez (N*Sync), hip hop recording artist Lil Mama and choreographer Shane Sparks ("You Got Served").
