"I Survived a Japanese Game Show" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
Opposite stiff competition including Fox's "Hell's Kitchen" and the first hour of NBC's "America's Got Talent," ABC's "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" finished second at 9 p.m. among Men 18-34 (2.1/7) and Men 18-49 (2.4/8).
* On average in its first 2 weeks, "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" has improved ABC's performance in the hour by 2.6 million (7.2 million vs. 4.6 million) and by 45% in Adults 18-49 (2.9/9 vs. 2.0/6) versus the comparable year-ago weeks (6/26 - 7/3/07).
"Primetime: The Outsiders" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
In the final hour of prime airing opposite the final hour of NBC's 2-hour "America's Got Talent," ABC News' "Primetime: The Outsiders" took a strong second place in the hour in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6) and Adults 25-54 (2.3/6). Additionally, "Primetime: The Outsiders" outperformed its newsmagazine competition on the night, CBS' "48 Hours Mystery" (9:00-10:00 p.m.), by 24% in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6 vs. 1.7/5).
* On average, "Primetime: The Outsiders" is seeing increases of 7% in Total Viewers (6.2 million vs. 5.8 million) and 15% in Adults 18-49 (2.3/7 vs. 2.0/6) over the same nights last year (6/26 - 7/3/07).
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped from 17% at the same point in 2006-07, up to 25% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
