ABC News' "Primetime: The Outsiders" is Second in Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54, Posting Increases at 10pm Over the Net's Year-Ago Performances

Tuesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's Tuesday lineup of "Wipeout," "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" and "Primetime: The Outsiders" drew 7.2 million viewers and a 2.7 rating, 8 share in Adults 18-49, finishing second on the night in the key young adult demo. The Net was No. 1 on the night in each of the key Men demographics: Men 18-34 (2.0/8), Men 18-49 (2.4/8) and Men 25-54 (2.8/8). In fact, it was the 4th week in a row that ABC has won Tuesday night across all key men demos.

* Compared to the same night last year (7/3/07), ABC improved its Tuesday performance by 2.4 million viewers (7.2 million vs. 4.8 million) and by 69% in Adults 18-49 (2.7/8 vs. 1.6/6).

"Wipeout" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

Week 2 of ABC's new hit series, "Wipeout," once again dominated the 8 o'clock hour, winning its time period in Total Viewer (9.4 million) and across each of the key adult demographics: Adults 18-34 (3.0/11), Adults 18-49 (3.5/12) and Adults 25-54 (4.1/13). Head to head, the ABC series beat NBC's "Celebrity Family Feud" (7.0 million & 1.9/7 in Adults 18-49) by wider margins this week, with "Wipeout" beating the NBC series by 2.4 million viewers and by 84% in Adults 18-49. In addition, "Wipeout" beat Fox's series-low performing return of "Moment of Truth" (4.6 million and 1.8/6 in Adults 18-49) by 4.8 million viewers and by 94% in Adults 18-49.

* "Wipeout" stood as Tuesday's No. 1 TV program across each of the key Men demographics (M18-34/M18-49/M25-54), while standing as the No. 2 program in Adults 18-49, just one-tenth of a ratings point out of a tie for No. 1 with Fox's "Hell's Kitchen."

* From start to finish, "Wipeout" grew by 1.2 million viewers (8.8 million to 10.0 million) and by 22% in Adults 18-49 (3.2/12 to 3.9/13).

* "Wipeout's" second telecast showed strong retention from its series debut. The unscripted series retained 94% in Total Viewers and 95% in Adults 18-49 versus its week-ago premiere (10.0 million & 3.7/12 in Adults 18-49 on 6/24/08). In addition, "Wipeout" held 100% retention among Men 18-49 (3.3/12) and Men 25-54 (3.8/13), while posting increases among Teens 12-17 (2.2/10 vs. 2.1/9) and Kids 2-11 (2.9/12 vs. 2.7/11).

"I Survived a Japanese Game Show" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Opposite stiff competition including Fox's "Hell's Kitchen" and the first hour of NBC's "America's Got Talent," ABC's "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" finished second at 9 p.m. among Men 18-34 (2.1/7) and Men 18-49 (2.4/8).

* On average in its first 2 weeks, "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" has improved ABC's performance in the hour by 2.6 million (7.2 million vs. 4.6 million) and by 45% in Adults 18-49 (2.9/9 vs. 2.0/6) versus the comparable year-ago weeks (6/26 - 7/3/07).

"Primetime: The Outsiders" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

In the final hour of prime airing opposite the final hour of NBC's 2-hour "America's Got Talent," ABC News' "Primetime: The Outsiders" took a strong second place in the hour in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6) and Adults 25-54 (2.3/6). Additionally, "Primetime: The Outsiders" outperformed its newsmagazine competition on the night, CBS' "48 Hours Mystery" (9:00-10:00 p.m.), by 24% in Adults 18-49 (2.1/6 vs. 1.7/5).

* On average, "Primetime: The Outsiders" is seeing increases of 7% in Total Viewers (6.2 million vs. 5.8 million) and 15% in Adults 18-49 (2.3/7 vs. 2.0/6) over the same nights last year (6/26 - 7/3/07).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped from 17% at the same point in 2006-07, up to 25% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
