ABC Wins Saturday with the "Saturday Night Football" Season Premiere in Viewers and Across All Adult Demos, and is Up Over its Year-Ago Performance

WEEK No. 49:

During the week of August 25, 2008, ABC saw week-to-week increases of 14% in Total Viewers (4.1 million vs. 3.6 million) and by 8% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/4 vs. 1.2/3), posting the Net's best weekly performance in both measures in 4 weeks since w/o 7/28/08.

Rankings: ABC claimed 3 of the week's Top 20 TV shows in Adults 18-49: "Wipeout" No. 7, "Vote 2008: Democratic National Convention - THU" No. 17 and "Saturday Night Football" No. 18. The third season premiere of "Saturday Night Football" stood as the No. 1 program of the week in Men 18-49 and ranked as the No. 2 program in Men 18-34. ABC News aired TV's Top newsmagazine of the week in Adults 18-49 with Friday's "20/20."

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped from 18% at the same point in 2006-07, up to 26% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Tuesday

"Wipeout" (8:00-9:02 p.m.)

On its first regular original airing since July, following a 3-week break with the "Wipey Awards" (8/5) and two weeks of repeats against the Olympics (8/12 and 8/19), "Wipeout" took a strong second place to NBC's "America's Got Talent" in Adults 18-49 (2.3/7) at 8 o'clock. It was the No. 2 show of the night in the young adult demo (tied w/CBS' "Big Brother" and Fox's "House" in the 9:00 p.m. hour).

"Wanna Bet" (9:02-10:00 p.m.)

On it second original airing in its new time period, ABC's "Wanna Bet" achieved series highs in both Total Viewers (4.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.5/4). It was the show's second consecutive original airing to hit new highs on both Nielsen measures.
