During the week of August 25, 2008, ABC saw week-to-week increases of 14% in Total Viewers (4.1 million vs. 3.6 million) and by 8% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/4 vs. 1.2/3), posting the Net's best weekly performance in both measures in 4 weeks since w/o 7/28/08.
Rankings: ABC claimed 3 of the week's Top 20 TV shows in Adults 18-49: "Wipeout" No. 7, "Vote 2008: Democratic National Convention - THU" No. 17 and "Saturday Night Football" No. 18. The third season premiere of "Saturday Night Football" stood as the No. 1 program of the week in Men 18-49 and ranked as the No. 2 program in Men 18-34. ABC News aired TV's Top newsmagazine of the week in Adults 18-49 with Friday's "20/20."
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped from 18% at the same point in 2006-07, up to 26% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
