WEEK No. 4:
During the week of October 13, 2008, ABC took second place in Total Viewers (9.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.8/8). The Net ranked No. 1 for the 4th week in a row with Women 18-34 (2.9/8) and Women 18-49 (3.6/9-tie).
Rankings: ABC aired the Top 2 TV shows for the week in Adults 18-49, with "Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives." In fact it was the 3rd time in the 4 weeks this season that ABC claimed the No. 1 TV series in the key young adult sales demo: The Net aired 4 of the week's Top 7 most-watched television shows in prime: "Dancing with the Stars" No. 3, "Desperate Housewives" No. 4, "DWTS Results" No. 6 and "Grey's Anatomy" No. 7.
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 28% currently, from 20% at the same point in 2007. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
