A&E ACHIEVES BEST OCTOBER AND ON PACE FOR BEST YEAR IN NETWORK HISTORY
2008 TO MARK THE FIFTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR OF GROWTH FOR THE PERENNIAL TOP 10 NETWORK
NETWORK RANKS NUMBERS 5 IN 25-54 AND 6 IN 18-49 FOR 2008 TO-DATE
NEW YORK October 28, 2008 A&E Network has just secured its best October and is currently on pace for the best year in the network's history among the key 18-49 and 25-54 demographics. October marks the 27th consecutive month in which A&E ranks among the top 10 cable networks in adults 25-54 and 2008 will be the fifth straight year of growth for the network.
Garnering double-digit growth in all key demos, A&E's October 2008 prime average surpasses October 2007 by 11% in HH Rating (1.0 vs. 0.9), 18% in total viewers (1.3 million vs. 1.1 million), 24% in adults 25-54 (660,000 vs. 533,000) and 27% in adults 18-49 (636,000 vs. 499,000).
Excluding the news networks in heavy election coverage, A&E's 27% growth in adults 18-49 is the best among all top 10 ad-supported cable networks, despite the heavy competition of the new broadcast season. Versus last October, A&E has surpassed MTV, Spike, VH1, Lifetime and Discovery in adults 18-49. For the month, A&E ranks number 8 in adults 25-54 and number 10 for October 2008 in adults 18-49, up from number 13 in October 2007.
This achievement is due to the success across the entire A&E schedule, as the network is up on every night of the week in the key adults 18-49 demo and six of seven nights in adults 25-54.
A&E is also on track for the best year and the highest ranking in network history. Among all ad-supported cable networks, A&E currently ranks number 5 in adults 25-54 (up from number 7 in 2007) and number 6 in adults 18-49 (up from number 8 in 2007).
