ABC defeated CBS on Sunday night by 50% in Adults 18-49 (3.9/9 vs. 2.6/6).
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
Surging from its lead-in, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" dominated its unscripted competition in the time period, CBS' "Amazing Race XII," by 1.9 million viewers (11.7 million vs. 9.8 million) and by a best-of-season 36% in Adults 18-49 (3.8/9 vs. 2.8/7).
* "Home Edition" was up from the prior week in Adults 18-34 and across all key men demographics (M18-34/M18-49/M25-54).
"Desperate Housewives" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
Sunday's most-watched TV show, ABC's "Desperate Housewives" won its 9 o'clock time in Total Viewers (15.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (5.8/13), defeating NBC's NFL Game (14.3 million & 5.3/12), CBS' "Cold Case" (11.6 million & 2.6/6) and Fox's animated comedies ("Family Guy"/"American Dad" - 8.6 million & 4.4/10).
* "Housewives" retained 100% of its Adult 18-49 audience (5.8/13) week to week, while growing its Adult 18-34 numbers (4.7/11 vs. 4.6/12).
"Brothers & Sisters" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
For the 6th week running, ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" ranked No. 1 during Sunday's 10 o'clock hour across each of the key Women demographics: W18-34 (3.5/10-tie), W18-49 (5.0/12) and W25-54 (5.7/13). Once again the No. 1 non-sports show in the slot in viewers and young adults, "Brothers & Sisters" defeated its drama competition in the hour, CBS' "The Unit," by 8% in Total Viewers (9.7 million vs. 9.0 million) and 48% in Adults 18-49 (3.4/9 vs. 2.3/6).
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 28% currently, from 20% at the same point in 2007. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
