BURBANK, Calif. � November 25, 2008 � Paced by "NBC Sunday Night Football," which was the #1 program of the week in all key adult-male demos and the #2 show of the week in adults 18-49, NBC averaged a 2.6 rating, 7 share in adults 18-49 and 7.1 million viewers overall for the week of November 17-23, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.

The "NBC Sunday Night Football" telecast of the Indianapolis Colts at the San Diego Chargers was the #1 program of the week in all key adult-male demographics � men 18-34, men 18-49 and men 25-54. Among adults 18-49, "Sunday Night Football" ranked #2 among all programs this week, and NBC's "The Office" ranked #8 (tied).

Among adults 18-34, NBC placed four programs among the week's top 10 and seven shows among the top 20, more than any other network, with "NBC Sunday Night Football" (#3), "The Office" (#4), "Heroes" (#6), "30 Rock" (#9), "Law & Order: SVU" (#12, tied), "The Biggest Loser" (#15) and "ER" (#19, tied). (Note: weekly program rankings exclude football overruns, post-game and pre-game telecasts).

Through the first nine weeks of the 2008-09 season, NBC is now the "second youngest" of the major broadcast networks, with a median age of 45.9 years, only 0.6 years "older" than Fox (45.3 years). By comparison, ABC's median age is 50.5 and CBS's median age is 53.4. Season to date, NBC is running within 0.1 of a rating point of first place in adults 18-34 and 0.3 of a rating point of first place in adults 18-49.

Primetime averages for the week of November 17-23 in adults 18-49 were ABC (3.2/8), CBS and Fox (3.0/8), NBC (2.6/7), Univision (1.5/4), CW (1.0/3) and Telemundo (0.6/2). In overall total viewers the weekly averages were CBS (12.0 million), ABC (10.1 million), Fox (8.4 million), NBC (7.1 million), Univision (3.9 million), CW (2.2 million) and Telemundo (1.4 million).

Through Sunday, Nov. 23, with 25 nights of the 28-night Nielsen November sweep period measured, current November 2008 sweep averages in adults 18-49 are: ABC (3.2/8), CBS (3.0/8), NBC (2.9/8), Fox (2.7/7) and CW (1.0/3). In adults 18-34, current November 2008 sweep averages are: NBC and ABC (2.5/8), Fox (2.5/7), CBS (2.0/6) and CW (1.2/3). In total viewers, the 25-night November sweep averages are CBS (11.6 million), ABC (10.2 million), NBC (7.9 million), Fox (7.0 million) and CW (2.2 million).

NBC highlights for the week of November 17-23:

* On Monday, "Chuck" attracted its biggest overall viewership of the current season, gaining 8 percent in 18-49 rating and 9 percent in overall viewers versus the prior week.

* Also on Monday, "Heroes" was the #1 program in its highly competitive time period in adults, men and women 18-34 and men 18-49. Of note, "Heroes" has been adding an average 20 percent to its 18-49 rating when "live plus seven day" results are reported.

* On Tuesday, "Law & Order: SVU" won its hour in adults 18-49 and all other key demographics, beating the ABC-CBS drama competition combined in adults, men and women 18-34. In adults 18-49, "SVU" topped CBS's "Without a Trace" by 42 percent and ABC's "Eli Stone" by 131 percent.

* Also on Tuesday, "The Biggest Loser" gained 46 percent in 18-49 rating and 31 percent or more than 2.1 million persons in total viewers from its first to its fourth half-hour. "Loser" won the 9-10 p.m. hour among women 18-34, and, in its final half-hour, pulled to within one share of the time-period lead in adults 18-49 in a crowded slot that included competition from ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," CBS's "The Mentalist" and Fox's "Fringe."

* On Thursday, "ER" beat the ABC-CBS freshmen drama competition in adults 18-49 for the seventh consecutive week. "ER" also won its slot in adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and all key adult-female demographics � women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54.

* Also on Thursday, "Kath & Kim" increased 10 percent in 18-49 rating versus the prior week.

* NBC's Thursday comedies, "30 Rock" and "The Office" are the two most upscale shows on primetime television, with indices of 147 and 146 respectively of adults 18-49 living in $100k+ homes.

* "30 Rock" on Thursday was up 26 percent in adults 18-49 and 31 percent in total viewers versus its average last season in this same post-"Office" time period.

* The "NBC Sunday Night Football" telecast of the Indianapolis Colts at the San Diego Chargers was the #1 primetime telecast on Sunday in adults 18-49, total viewers and other key measures, among them all key adult-male demographics (excludes football overruns).

Ratings reflect "live plus same day" data unless otherwise noted. Season-to-date figures are averages of "live plus seven day" data except for the two most recent weeks, which are "live plus same day."

Additional NBC highlights for the week of November 17-23:

On Monday, Nov. 17 from 8-9 p.m. ET, "Chuck" (2.6 rating, 7 share in 18-49, 6.9 million viewers overall) increased week-to-week by 8 percent in 18-49 rating (2.6/7 vs. 2.4/6) and 9 percent in total viewers (6.9 million vs. 6.3 million) to deliver its biggest total viewership of the current season. "Chuck" ranked #2 in men 18-34 and men 18-49.

Monday at 9 p.m. ET, "Heroes" (3.6/8 in adults 18-49, 7.6 million viewers overall) was #1 in its highly competitive time period in adults 18-34, men 18-34 and men 18-49. "Heroes" built on its lead-in from the previous hour by 38 percent in adult 18-49 rating and by 81 percent in adults 18-34 (to a 3.8 from a 2.1). In its second half-hour from 9:30-10 p.m., "Heroes" ranked #1 in adults 18-49, adults, and women 18-34 and all key adult-male demos � men 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54.

It is worth noting that "Heroes" has been adding an average 20 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from "live plus same day" to "live plus seven day" results. In total viewers, "Heroes" has been adding an average 1.7 million viewers overall to its previously reported "live plus same day" numbers.

Also of note, "Heroes" is the #8-ranked primetime program (tied) season-to-date in adults 18-49 and the #7 show (tied) in adults 18-34. (((It is one of the youngest dramas on any major network (with a median age of 36.5 years) and is one of the most time-shifted dramas on television (with time-shirting adding an average 45 percent to its "live only" rating in adults 18-49).

Monday at 10 p.m. ET, "My Own Worst Enemy" (1.8/5 in 18-49, 3.9 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in the time period among the broadcast networks in adults, men and women 18-34 and men 18-49, topping ABC's "Boston Legal" in those demos.

On Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 8-10 p.m. ET, "The Biggest Loser 6" (3.2/8 in 18-49, 7.8 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in its tough two-hour time period in adults, men and women 18-34. From its first half-hour to its fourth, "The Biggest Loser" gained 46 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 3.8/9 from a 2.6/7) and 31 percent or 2.1 million persons in total viewers (to 8.9 million from 6.8 million). "Biggest Loser" won the 9-10 p.m. hour among women 18-34, and, in its final half-hour from 9:30-10 p.m., "Loser" pulled to within one share of the time-period lead in adults 18-49 in a crowded slot that included competition from ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," CBS's "The Mentalist" and Fox's "Fringe."

Tuesday from 10-11 p.m. ET, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (3.7/10 in 18-49, 10.1 million viewers overall) locked up its highest 18-49 rating in five weeks (since October 14) and its biggest overall viewership in seven weeks (since September 30).

"SVU" won its time period in adults 18-49 and all other key demographics, beating the ABC-CBS drama competition combined in adults, men and women 18-34. In adults 18-49, "SVU" delivered a 42 percent margin of victory over CBS's second-place "Without a Trace" (3.7 vs. 2.6) and a 131 percent margin over ABC's "Eli Stone" (3.7 vs. 1.6).

On Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 8-9 p.m. ET, "Knight Rider" averaged a 1.5/4 in 18-49 and 5.2 million viewers overall.

Wednesday at 9 p.m., "Life" averaged a 1.7/4 in 18-49 and 5.4 million viewers overall. "Life" has been adding an average 25 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from "live plus same day" to "live plus seven day" results, the second-biggest jump among primetime network series, behind only NBC's "Lipstick Jungle." "Life" has been adding an average 868,000 viewers overall to its previously reported "live plus same day" numbers when "live plus seven day" viewing is counted (to 6.5 million from 5.6 million).

"Life" has grown 20 percent in 18-49 rating since moving from Friday to Wednesday in early November (with a 1.8 average on Wednesday from a 1.5 on Fridays, "live plus same day").

Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET, "Law & Order" (2.2/6 in 18-49, 7.6 million viewers overall) matched NBC's highest 18-49 rating in this time period since September 24 (excluding Presidential debate analysis). In total viewers, "Law & Order" improved on NBC's season average in this time period prior to "Law & Order" by 49 percent (7.6 million vs. 5.1 million; excludes news coverage). "Law & Order" built on its lead-in from the previous hour by 29 percent in 18-49 rating and 40 percent in total viewers to rank #2 in the hour in adults 18-49, total viewers and most other key measures.

On Thursday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. ET, "My Name is Earl" (2.6/7, 6.6 million viewers overall) ranked #2 in the time period among the broadcast networks in adults 18-49 and #1 in adults and men 18-34, topping CBS's "Survivor," ABC's "Ugly Betty," Fox's "Kitchen Nightmares" and CW's "Smallville" in those latter demos.

Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET, "Kath & Kim" (2.3/6 in 18-49, 5.3 million viewers overall) was up week-to-week by 10 percent in 18-49 rating (2.3/6 vs. 2.1/5). "Kath & Kim" retained 88 percent of its adults 18-49 lead-in and 95 percent of its adults 18-34 lead-in, while building on its lead-in among women 18-34 by 5 percent (to a 2.3 from a 2.2).

Thursday from 9-9:31 p.m. ET, "The Office" (4.3/10 in 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall) ranked #1 among the broadcast networks in its highly competitive time period in men 18-49 and men 18-34, topping CBS's "CSI," ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" and Fox's "Kitchen Nightmares" in those demos. "The Office" ranked #2 in its time period in adults and women 18-34 and men 25-54. Week-to-week, "The Office" was up 5 percent in 18-49 rating (4.3/10 vs. 4.1/10).

"The Office" has been adding an average 19 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from "live plus same day" to "live plus seven day" results. In total viewers, "The Office" has been adding an average 1.4 million viewers to its previously reported "live plus same day" numbers when "live plus seven day" viewing is counted

Season-to-date, "The Office" is primetime television's #6-ranked program among adults 18-49. "The Office" achieves this despite airing in head-to-head competition with the top-rated show on both the ABC lineup ("Grey's Anatomy") and the CBS lineup ("CSI").

Also, "The Office" is the #2 most upscale show in primetime network television, with a 146 index of adults 18-49 living in homes with $100k+ incomes and one of the most time-shifted primetime series, with time-shifting adding 50 percent to its "live only" rating in adults 18-49.

Thursday from 9:31-10:01 p.m. ET, "30 Rock" (3.4/8 in 18-49, 7.1 million viewers overall) ranked #1 among the broadcast networks in men 18-34 (tied with "Grey's Anatomy") and #2 in adults 18-34. Versus its average in this post-"Office" time period last season, "30 Rock" was up 26 percent in 18-49 rating (3.4 vs. 2.7) and 31 percent in total viewers (7.1 million vs. 5.4 million).

"30 Rock" has been adding an average 16 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from "live plus same day" to "live plus seven day" results. In total viewers, "30 Rock" has been adding an average 1.2 million viewers to its previously reported "live plus same day" numbers when "live plus seven day" viewing is counted.

Thursday from 10:01-11 p.m. ET, "ER" (3.4/9 in 18-49, 8.9 million viewers overall) won its time period in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and most other key demographics, topping the freshmen dramas "Eleventh Hour" on CBS and "Life on Mars" on ABC. In adults 18-49, "ER" beat "Eleventh Hour" by a 21 percent margin (3.4 vs. 2.8) and outperformed "Life on Mars" by 36 percent (3.4 vs. 2.5). "ER" has now finished #1 in this time period in adults 18-49, excluding sports, for seven weeks in a row.

NBC finished within 2 shares of the nightlong win in adults 18-49 and was #1 among the broadcast networks Thursday night in men 18-34.

On Friday, Nov. 21 from 8-9 p.m. ET, "Deal or No Deal" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall) matched NBC's highest 18-49 rating in this time period since October 24 and attracted NBC's largest overall viewership in this slot in that same four-week period. From its first half-hour to its second, "Deal" increased by 18 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 1.3 from a 1.1) and by 13 percent in total viewers (to 6.0 million from 5.3 million). At 9 p.m., "Crusoe" averaged a 0.9/3 and 3.6 million viewers overall.

Friday at 10 p.m., "Lipstick Jungle" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall) built on its lead-in from the previous hour by 33 percent in adults 18-49 and by 89 percent in women 18-49 (to a 1.7 from a 0.9).

"Lipstick Jungle" has been adding an average 29 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from "live plus same day" to "live plus seven day" results. This 29 percent increase is the biggest in percentage terms for any primetime series on the broadcast networks in going from "live plus same day" to "live plus seven" ratings. In total viewers, "Lipstick Jungle" has been adding an average 918,000 viewers to its previously reported "live plus same day" numbers when "live plus seven day" viewing is counted (to 5.7 million from 4.8 million).

On Saturday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Knight Rider" averaged a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 2.5 million viewers overall. At 9 p.m., an encore "Law & Order" averaged a 0.8/2 in 18-49 and 3.2 million viewers overall. At 10 p.m., a rebroadcast of "Law & Order: SVU" (1.7/5 in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall) built on its lead-in from the previous hour by 113 percent in 18-49 rating and 79 percent or 2.5 million persons in total viewers.

On Sunday, Nov. 23, the "NBC Sunday Night Football" telecast of the Indianapolis Colts at the San Diego Chargers averaged a 5.6/14 in adults 18-49, 15.2 million viewers overall and a 9.5/15 household rating/share for its full duration from 8:23-11:28 p.m. ET. It was the #1 primetime telecast on Sunday in adults 18-49, total viewers and other key measures, including all key adult-male demographics (excludes football overruns). For the night (from 7:30-11 p.m. ET), NBC averaged a 4.6/11 in 18-49 and 12.5 million viewers overall.

Also on Sunday, "Football Night in America 2" from 7:30-7:57 p.m. ET averaged a 1.5/4 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall and a 3.5/4 household rating/share. "Football Night in America 3" from 7:57-8:15 p.m. delivered a 2.9/8 in 18-49, 7.5 million viewers overall and a 4.9/8 in households. From 8:15-8:23 p.m., "NBC Sunday Night Football Pre Kickoff" averaged a 3.5/9 in 18-49, 9.5 million viewers overall and a 6.1/10 in households.
