'THE 66TH ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS' DELIVERS NBC'S BIGGEST NON-SPORTS VIEWERSHIP IN THE SUNDAY SLOT SINCE THE 2006 EMMY AWARDS
'THE GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS' TELECAST WINS ITS THREE-HOUR TIME PERIOD IN ADULTS 18-49, TOTAL VIEWERS AND OTHER KEY MEASURES
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. � January 12, 2009 � Last night's telecast of "The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards" assembled NBC's biggest overall viewership in the Sunday time period, excluding sports telecasts, since the 2006 Emmy Awards, according to "fast affiliate-based" "live plus same day" viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.
Last night from 8-11p.m. ET, "The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards" (4.8 rating, 11 share in adults 18-49, 14.6 million viewers overall) attracted NBC's largest overall viewership in the time period, excluding sports telecasts, since the 2006 Emmy Awards telecast, which averaged 16.2 million viewers overall on August 27, 2006. Versus NBC's non-sports average in this time period last season, the "Golden Globe Awards" telecast was up 153 percent in 18-49 rating (4.8 vs. 1.9) and 134 percent in total viewers (14.6 million vs. 6.2 million).
"The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards" won its highly competitive three-hour time period in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54, total viewers and other key measures, pending updates. The telecast built to its most dominant hour from 10-11 p.m., when it won that hour by a margin of 50 percent in adults 18-49 (5.1 vs. a 3.4 for ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" in second place).
From 7-8 p.m. ET, "The 2009 Golden Globe Award Red Carpet Special" averaged a 1.8/5 in 18-49 and 7.7 million viewers overall. From its first half-hour to its second, the special increased by 33 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 2.0/5 from a 1.5/4) and by 18 percent or 1.3 million persons in total viewers (to 8.3 million from 7.0 million).
Preliminary 18-49 averages for Sunday night are: CBS, 4.9/12; NBC, 4.1/10; ABC, 3.5/9; Fox, 3.4/8; CW, 0.4/1. In overall total viewers, January 11 preliminary results are: CBS, 17.0 million; NBC, 12.9 million; ABC, 10.3 million; Fox, 9.6 million; CW, 1.2 million
