"Lost" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

"The Unusuals" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

On its premiere, the ABC drama turned in the best-ever lead-in retention for any series to follow an original "Lost" in Total Viewers (82%) and the strongest among Adults 18-49 (59%) in more than 1 year (since 1/31/08).
"The Unusuals" attracted ABC's biggest audience for a regular 10 o'clock Wednesday series telecast since October and highest Adult 18-49 rating since January since 10/1/08 ("Dirty Sexy Money" season premiere) and 1/28/09 ("Life on Mars" time period premiere).
Compared to ABC's average in the hour this season with regular series programming (Live + Same Day), "The Unusuals" improved ABC's performance in the slot by 21% in Total Viewers (6.8 million vs. 5.6 million) and by 16% in Adults 18-49 (2.2/6 vs. 1.9/5).
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to over 30% currently, from 23% at the same point in 2008. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
