"48 HOURS MYSTERY" WAS THE NIGHT'S #1 PROGRAM IN VIEWERS AND HOUSEHOLDS ON SATURDAY, APRIL 18, POSTING SIGNIFICANT YEAR-TO-YEAR INCREASES
48 HOURS MYSTERY was the night's #1 program in both households and viewers on Saturday, April 18 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT). In its time period, the CBS News broadcast also was first in households (5.0/09) and viewers (7.26m), and second in both adults 25-54 (2.3/06) and adults 18-49 (1.6/05). Compared to the same week last year, 48 HOURS MYSTERY was up an impressive +25% in households, +21% in adults 25-54 and +7% in adults 18-49
The April 18 broadcast featured the bizarre demise of Air Force Col. Philip Michael Shue. The cause of his death was never in dispute - he died from fatal brain injuries after crashing his car - but what led to this accident was beyond suspicious. Inside the smashed vehicle his body was found mutilated, with duct tape around his wrists and ankles. Authorities insisted he was not tortured, however, and that he had done these acts to himself. Believing her husband could never have committed suicide, Shue's wife, Tracy, went to court and years later had his death officially ruled a homicide. No one has been arrested for Col. Shue's murder.
Peter Henderson produced the April 18 program. Al Briganti is the executive editor. Susan Zirinsky is the executive producer.
