'LOSER' WINS THE 9 P.M. HOUR IN 18-49 AGAINST HEAVYWEIGHT COMEPTITION THAT INCLUDES ABC'S 'DANCING WITH THE STARS,' CBS'S 'NCIS: LA' AND FOX'S YANKEES-ANGELS ALCS GAME 4
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - October 27, 2009 - Paced by "NBC Sunday Night Football," which was the #1 program of the week in adults 18-49, and with strong ratings from such series as "The Office," "30 Rock" and "The Biggest Loser," NBC averaged a 2.5 rating, 7 share in 18-49 and 7.2 million viewers overall for the week of October 19-25, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.
NBC Sports' "Sunday Night Football" telecast of the Arizona Cardinals versus the New York Giants was the #1 program of the week in primetime's key demographic of adults 18-49. "Sunday Night Football" also ranked #1 among all primetime telecasts this week in adults 25-54 (tie) and all key adult-male demographics - men 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54. "Sunday Night Football" was also the #1 program of the week on the broadcast networks among teens 12-17 (rankings exclude sports pre- and post-game telecasts).
Also ranking among the top shows of the week in adults 18-49 was Thursday's "The Office," which ranked #9 among all primetime programs, and Tuesday's "The Biggest Loser," which was #11 (excluding sports pre- and post-game telecasts).
Primetime averages for the week of October 19-25 in adults 18-49 were Fox (3.5/10), CBS (2.7/8), ABC (2.6/7), NBC (2.5/7) and CW (0.9/2). In overall total viewers the weekly averages were CBS (10.7 million), Fox (10.3 million), ABC (9.1 million), NBC (7.2 million) and CW (2.0 million).
NBC highlights for the week of October 19-25:
* On Sunday, NBC Sports' "Sunday Night Football" telecast of the Arizona Cardinals at the New York Giants was the top-rated telecast of the night in adults and men 18-49 and adults and men 25-54, despite extraordinary competition that included Fox's coverage of the Yankees-Angeles deciding ALCS Game 6.
* On Friday, "Law & Order" improved on NBC's average in its slot last season by 25 percent in adults 18-49 and 64 percent in total viewers, while "Dateline" set a new season high in total viewers. Both "Law & Order" and "Dateline" ranked #2 among the major networks in their hours in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and other key measures.
* Also on Friday, "The Jay Leno Show" was up 8 percent in adults 18-49, 13 percent in adults 25-54 and 24 percent or more than 1.1 million persons in total viewers versus the prior Friday.
* On Thursday, "Parks and Recreation," "The Office" and "30 Rock" all posted week-to-week growth in both adults 18-49 and total viewers, while "Community" enrolled the top total-viewer result in its three telecasts to date in the 8-8:30 p.m. time period.
* "The Office" on Thursday ranked #1 in its highly competitive time period in adults 18-34, men 18-34 and men 18-49, ahead of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," CBS's "CSI" encore and Fox's coverage of the Yankees-Angels ACLS Game 5. In adults 18-49, "The Office" was the #2 show on television Thursday night, behind only "Grey's Anatomy."
* This was the second-highest rated episode of "The Office" so far this season in 18-49, behind only the October 8 one-hour wedding episode
* Also on Thursday, "30 Rock" ranked #1 in its highly competitive slot in men 18-34 and #2 in adults and women 18-34. Week-to-week, "30 Rock" was up 10 percent in adults 18-49 and 7 percent in total viewers.
* On Wednesday, "Law & Order: SVU" locked up season highs in both adults 18-49 and total viewers. Versus NBC's average in this slot during the regular 2008-09 season, "SVU" was up 65 percent in 18-49 rating and 56 percent or 3.3 million persons in total viewers (9.2 million vs. 5.9 million).
* Also on Wednesday, "Mercy" ranked #1 among the major networks in its hour in total viewers for the third week in a row and was up 25 percent in both adults 18-49 and total viewers versus NBC's average in this time slot during the regular 2008-09 season.
* Additionally on Wednesday, "The Jay Leno Show" ranked #2 among the major networks in the hour in total viewers, men 18-49 and men 25-54.
* On Tuesday, "The Biggest Loser" continues to post robust year-over-year growth, this week up 30 percent in adults 18-49 and 33 percent or more than 2.4 million persons in total viewers versus the same night last year. Week-to-week, "Loser" gained 11 percent in adults 18-49 and 7 percent in total viewers.
* This was the top-rated edition of "Loser" in adults 18-49 since the prior cycle's finale on May 12 and the top-rated telecast during a fall cycle of "Loser," excluding finales, since December 6, 2006
* For its second hour from 9-10 p.m., "The Biggest Loser" ranked #1 in adults 18-49, adults 18-34 and all key adult-female demographics, topping CBS's "NCIS: Los Angeles," ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" and Fox's coverage of the Yankees-Angels ALCS Game 4. From its first half-hour to its fourth, "Biggest Loser" grew by 32 percent in adults 18-49 and by 19 percent or more than 1.7 million persons in total viewers. For its full two-hour time period, "Loser" ranked #1 in adults and women 18-34 and women 18-49 and #2 in adults 18-49.
* On Monday, despite atypical competition from playoff baseball, "Heroes" scored its top 18-49 and total-viewer results in three weeks.

Despite the atypical competition from playoff baseball, "Heroes" scored its top 18-49 and total-viewer results in three weeks, up 4 percent in 18-49 and 3 percent in total viewers versus the prior week. "Heroes" ranked #2 among the major networks in men 18-34.
"Heroes" is one of the most time-shifted programs on network television. So far this season, "Heroes" has added 31 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from its "live plus same day" to its "live plus seven day" results.
Monday from 9-10:01 p.m. ET, "Trauma" averaged a 1.8/4 in adults 18-49 and 5.5 million viewers overall in a highly competitive time period that included CBS's "Two and a Half Men" and "Big Bang Theory," ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" and Fox's "House." From its first half-hour to its second, "Trauma" increased by 12 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 1.9 from a 1.7), by 10 percent in adults 25-54 (2.2 vs. 2.0) and by 10 percent in total viewers (5.7 million vs. 5.2 million).
Monday from 10:01-11 p.m. ET, "The Jay Leno Show" averaged a 1.4/4 in adults 18-49, a 1.7/4 in adults 25-54 and 4.7 million viewers overall. Monday's time-period competition included first-run episodes of CBS's "CSI: Miami," ABC's "Castle" and Fox's "Lie to Me" and TBS's coverage of the Dodgers-Phillies NLCS Game 4.

Week-to-week, "The Biggest Loser" gained 11 percent in adults 18-49 (3.9 vs. 3.5) and 7 percent in total viewers (9.8 million vs. 9.1 million).
"The Biggest Loser" ranked #2 in its two-hour time period in adults 18-49 and #1 in adults 18-34, women 18-34 and women 18-49.

Tuesday from 10:01-11 p.m. ET, "The Jay Leno Show" averaged a 1.8/5 in adults 18-49, a 2.1/5 in adults 25-54 and 5.5 million viewers overall, versus time-period competition that included CBS's "The Good Wife," ABC's "The Forgotten" and Fox's coverage of the Yankees-Angels ALCS Game 4. "The Jay Leno Show" was the #1 non-sports telecast among the major networks in the hour in men 18-34 and the #2 non-sports telecast adults 18-34, men 18-49 and men 25-54, topping "The Forgotten" in those demographics.
Versus Jay Leno's 2008-09 average at 11:35 p.m. ET on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," Tuesday's telecast was up in adults 18-49 (1.8 vs. 1.4), adults 25-54 (2.1 vs. 1.8) and total viewers (5.5 million vs. 5.1 million). "Mercy" was up 25 percent in both adults 18-49 and total viewers versus NBC's average in this time slot during the regular 2008-09 season (1.9 vs. 1.6 in adults 18-49 and 7.2 million vs. 5.7 million in total viewers).
Wednesday from 9-10:01 p.m. ET, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (2.8/7 in adults 18-49, 9.2 million viewers overall) locked up new season highs in both adults 18-49 and total viewers in its new Wednesday time period, and ranked #2 in the hour in overall viewership. Versus NBC's average in this slot during the regular 2008-09 season, "SVU" was up 65 percent in 18-49 rating (2.8 vs. 1.7) and 56 percent or 3.3 million persons in total viewers (9.2 million vs. 5.9 million). It is worth noting that so far this season, "Law & Order: SVU" has added 24 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from its "live plus same day" to its "live plus seven day" results.
"Law & Order: SVU" scored NBC's highest 18-49 rating and total viewer result in this time period during the traditional primetime season since October 1, 2008. Week-to-week, "SVU" was up 8 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 2.8 from a 2.6) and 4 percent in total viewers (9.2 million vs. 8.8 million).
Wednesday from 10:01-11 p.m. ET, "The Jay Leno Show" averaged a 1.5/4 in adults 18-49, a 1.8/5 in adults 25-54 and 5.1 million viewers overall. Wednesday's time-period competition included CBS's "CSI: NY" and ABC's "Eastwick." "The Jay Leno Show" ranked #2 among the major networks in the hour in total viewers, men 18-49 and men 25-54, topping "Eastwick" in those measures.

"Community" delivered its top total-viewer result in its three telecasts to date in the 8-8:30 p.m. time period. It is worth noting that so far this season, "Community" has added 23 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from its "live plus same day" to its "live plus seven day" results.
Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET, "Parks and Recreation" (2.1/6 in 18-49, 4.9 million viewers overall) built on its lead-in by 11 percent in adults 18-49. "Parks" has built on or retained 100 percent of its 18-49 lead-in with all six telecasts this season. Week-to-week, "Parks and Recreation" increased 5 percent in adults 18-49 (2.1 vs. 2.0) and 9 percent in total viewers (4.9 million vs. 4.5 million). So far this season, "Parks and Recreation" has added 18 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from its "live plus same day" to its "live plus seven day" results.
Thursday from 9-9:31 p.m. ET, "The Office" (4.4/11 in 18-49, 8.7 million viewers overall) ranked #1 in its highly competitive time period in adults 18-34, men 18-34 and men 18-49, ahead of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," CBS's "CSI" encore and Fox's coverage of the Yankees-Angels ACLS Game 5. In adults 18-49, "The Office" ranked #2. Friday from 9-10:01 p.m. ET, "Dateline NBC" (1.8/6 in 18-49, 7.9 million viewers overall) set a new season high in total viewers. "Dateline" ranked #2 among the major networks in the hour in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and all other key ratings measures.
Friday from 10:01-11 p.m. ET, "The Jay Leno Show" averaged a 1.4/5 in adults 18-49, a 1.8/5 in adults 25-54 and 6.2 million viewers overall. In the time period, "The Jay Leno Show" tied for #1 among the major networks in men 18-34 and ranked #2 in adults 18-34 and total viewers. Friday's time-period competition included CBS's "Numb3rs" and ABC's "20/20."
Versus the prior Friday, "The Jay Leno Show" was up 8 percent in adults 18-49 (1.4 vs. 1.3), 13 percent in adults 25-54 (1.8 vs. 1.6) and 24 percent or more than 1.1 million persons in total viewers (6.2 million vs. 5.0 million).

At 9 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of "Trauma" (0.5/2 in 18-49, 3.1 million viewers overall) built on its lead-in from the previous hour by 25 percent in 18-49 rating and 32 percent in total viewers.
Saturday at 10 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (1.1/3 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall) increased from its first half-hour to its second by 20 percent in both adults 18-49 (to a 1.2 from a 1.0) and total viewers (5.2 million vs. 4.3 million).
On Sunday, October 25, the "NBC Sunday Night Football" telecast of the Arizona Cardinals at the New York Giants was the top-rated telecast of the night in adults and men 18-49 and adults and men 25-54, despite extraordinary competition that included Fox's coverage of the Yankees-Angeles deciding ALCS Game 6. For its full duration, the Cardinals-Giants game averaged a 5.9/15 in adults 18-49, 15.0 million viewers overall and a 9.1/15 household rating/share from 8:31-11:42 p.m. ET. For the primetime night (from 7:30-11 p.m. ET), NBC averaged a 4.8/12 in adults 18-49 and 12.5 million viewers overall.
Also on Sunday, "Football Night in America 2" from 7:30-7:57 p.m. ET averaged a 1.2/4 in 18-49, 3.4 million viewers overall and a 2.2/4 household rating/share. "Football Night in America 3" from 7:57-8:22 p.m. delivered a 2.8/8 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall and a 4.9/8 in households. From 8:22-8:31 p.m., "NBC Sunday Night Football Pre Kickoff" averaged a 3.7/10 in 18-49, 10.2 million viewers overall and a 6.2/10 in households. Note: "Football Night in America" from 7-7:30 p.m. ET was sustaining programming and does not figure in the nightly or weekly primetime averages.
