Quick Take for Tuesday, November 17, 2009 (Fast Affiliate Live + Same Day Ratings)

ABC Ranks No. 2 on Tuesday in Total Viewers, Outdrawing NBC by 2.6 Million and Fox by 4.9 Million

Growing the 8pm Hour Year to Year for ABC by 29% in Adults 18-49, "V" is No. 1 at 8pm and is the Night's No. 1 TV Show in Men 18-34 for the 3rd Straight Week

ABC's "DWTS the Results" Ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers at 9pm for the 2nd Straight Week, Beating CBS' "NCIS: Los Angeles" by 1.1 Million Viewers

ABC's "the forgotten" Defeats NBC's "Leno" by 1.6 Million Viewers

Tuesday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC earned second place on Tuesday to CBS in Total Viewers (10.9 million), outdrawing NBC by 2.6 million (8.3 million) and Fox by 4.9 million (6.0 million).

"V" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

ABC freshman "V" attracted 9.3 million viewers and a 3.1 rating, 8 share in Adults 18-49, leading the first hour of time-slot regular Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" by 2.8 million viewers and by 24% in Adults 18-49 (6.5 million & 2.5/7).

For the 3rd consecutive week, the ABC drama ranked No. 1 in the 8 o'clock hour among Men 18-34 (2.6/9-tie), while taking second among Men 18-49 (3.2/9) and Men 25-54 (3.9/10). In addition, "V" ranked as the No. 1 program on Tuesday among Men 18-34 for the 3rd week running.

Versus the year-ago November Sweep night, "V" improved the hour for ABC by 29% in Adults 18-49 (2.4/6 on 11/18/08).

"Dancing with the Stars the Results" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Ranking No. 1 in its time period in Total Viewers for the 2nd week in a row, Tuesday's most-watched unscripted TV show, ABC's "Dancing with the Stars the Results" outperformed CBS' "NCIS: Los Angeles" by 1.1 million viewers (15.9 million vs. 14.8 million). "DWTS the Results" topped the second hour of NBC's "Biggest Loser" (9.5 million) during the 9 o'clock hour by best-ever 6.4 million viewers. In addition, the ABC dance competition dominated Fox's dance program in the hour, beating the second hour of "So You Think You Can Dance" by 10.5 million viewers (15.9 million vs. 5.4 million) and by 39% in Adults 18-49 (3.2/8 vs. 2.3/6).

"the forgotten" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

Taking second to CBS' "The Good Wife" in the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "the forgotten" defeated NBC's "Jay Leno" by 1.6 million viewers (7.7 million vs. 6.1 million).

"the forgotten" is generating substantial increases over its first-reported numbers through DVR playback, picking up an average 1.0 million viewers and an additional 3-tenths of an Adult 18-49 rating point (+14%) from the initially reported Live + Same Day Numbers to the Live + 7 Day DVR finals.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to more than 33% currently, from 28% at the same point in 2008. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Source: Nielsen Media Research (Fast Affiliate, Live + Same Day Ratings), 11/17/09. DVR Playback = 9/21-11/1/09.
