UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - November 18, 2009 - Led by "NBC Sunday Night Football," which was the #1 program of the week in adults 18-49, total viewers and numerous other key measures, NBC averaged a 2.8 rating, 8 share in 18-49 and 8.1 million viewers overall for the week of November 9-15, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research. For the week, NBC ranked #2 among the major networks in men 18-34 and men 18-49 and tied for #1 in men 25-54.
NBC's "Sunday Night Football" telecast of the New England Patriots at the Indianapolis Colts was the #1 program of the week in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and all key adult-male demographics - men 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54. This marks the ninth telecast in a row of "NBC Sunday Night Football" to top the weekly adult 18-49 rankings (excluding NFL pre- and post-game shows, and including a tie with the Thursday NFL season opener). With an average 22.4 million viewers, "Sunday Night Football" also ranked #1 among all programs this week in total viewers.
Sunday's Patriots-Colts game was NBC's top-scoring "Sunday Night Football" telecast in both adults 18-49 and total viewers since the September 20 Giants-Cowboys matchup.
Also in the top 20 this week in primetime's key demographic of adults 18-49 was "The Office" (#10, tied) and "The Biggest Loser" (#16, tied) (rankings exclude all NFL pre- and post-game telecasts).
Primetime averages for the week of November 9-15 in adults 18-49 were ABC (3.2/9), Fox (3.1/8), NBC and CBS (2.8/8) and CW (1.1/3). In overall total viewers the weekly averages were CBS (11.5 million), ABC (11.2 million), NBC (8.1 million), Fox (8.0 million) and CW (2.4 million).
NBC highlights for the week of November 9-15:
* On Sunday, NBC Sports' "Sunday Night Football" telecast of the New England Patriots at the Indianapolis Colts led NBC to a commanding Sunday night win in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54, total viewers and other key measures. NBC's margin of victory over its closest network competitor Sunday night was 27 percent in adults 18-49 and 40 percent in total viewers.
* Sunday's Patriots-Colts game, with an average 22.4 million viewers overall, is the #2 "NBC Sunday Night Football" telecast of the season to date in total viewers, trailing only the September 20 Giants-Cowboys game. This week's game was up 16 percent in both 18-49 rating and in total viewers versus the "Sunday Night Football" game that aired on the same night last year (Cowboys-Redskins on November 16, 2008).
* On Thursday, "The Office" ranked #1 in its highly competitive time period in men 18-34 and men 18-49 and was the #2 show of the night in adults 18-49, behind only "Grey's Anatomy."
* Also on Thursday, "30 Rock" ranked #1 among the major networks in its tough slot in men 18-34 and #2 in adults 18-34, behind only "Grey's Anatomy,"
* Additionally on Thursday, "Community" ranked #1 among the major networks in men 18-34 and finished within 0.1 of a rating point of first place in adults 18-34, while "Parks and Recreation" retained 100 percent of its 18-49 lead-in from "Community."
* On Wednesday, "Law & Order: SVU" matched its highest 18-49 rating of the season and also equaled NBC's highest 18-49 rating in its time period during the traditional primetime season since October 1, 2008. "SVU" locked up week-to-week gains of 17 percent in adults 18-49 and 10 percent in total viewers.
* On Tuesday, "The Biggest Loser" gained 9 percent in 18-49 and 6 percent in total viewers versus the prior week, while continuing to outpace its year-ago levels, this week gaining 9 percent in adults 18-49 and 19 percent in total viewers versus the same night last year.
* "The Biggest Loser" was a winner in its second hour from 9-10 p.m., ranking #1 in adults 18-49, adults 18-34 and key adult-female demographics against tough competition that included CBS's "NCIS: Los Angeles," ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" and Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance."
* Also on Tuesday, "The Jay Leno Show" hit its second-highest adult 18-49 rating on any night of the week over the last five weeks (since Tuesday, Oct. 6). "Leno" ranked #1 (tied) among the major networks in men 18-34 and #2 in men 18-49.
Ratings reflect "live plus same day" data unless otherwise noted. Season-to-date figures are averages of "live plus seven day" data except for the two most recent weeks, which are "live plus same day."

On Monday, November 9, from 8-9 p.m. ET, "Heroes" averaged a 2.3 rating, 6 share in adults 18-49 and 5.3 million viewers overall, in a highly competitive time period that included Fox's "House," CBS's comedies and ABC's "Dancing With the Stars." "Heroes" is one of the most time-shifted programs on network television. So far this season, "Heroes" has added 30 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from its "live plus same day" to its "live plus seven day" results. In total viewers, "Heroes" adds more than 1.4 million viewers to its previously reported "live plus same day" results when "live plus seven day" ratings are released.
Monday from 9-10:01 p.m. ET, "Trauma" averaged a 1.8/4 in adults 18-49 and 5.3 million viewers overall versus competition that included CBS's "Two and a Half Men" and "Big Bang Theory," ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" and Fox's "Lie to Me."
Monday from 10:01-11 p.m. ET, "The Jay Leno Show" averaged a 1.2/3 in adults 18-49, a 1.4/4 in adults 25-54 and 4.0 million viewers overall. "The Jay Leno Show" matched its 18-49 and 25-54 ratings of the prior Monday and increased week-to-week by 3 percent in total viewers. "Leno" was also up versus the prior Monday by 10 percent in women 18-34 (1.1 vs. 1.0), 8 percent among women 18-49 (1.3 vs. 1.2) and 9 percent in women 25-54 (1.5 vs. 1.4). Monday's time-period competition included CBS's "CSI: Miami" and ABC's "Castle."

On Tuesday, November 10 from 8-10:01 p.m. ET, "The Biggest Loser" (3.8/10 in adults 18-49, 9.6 million viewers overall), gained 9 percent versus the prior week in adults 18-49 (3.8/10 vs. 3.5/9) and 6 percent in total viewers (9.6 million vs. 9.1 million). "Loser" continues to outpace its year-ago performance, this week gaining 9 percent in adults 18-49 and 19 percent in total viewers versus the same night last year (a 3.5/9 in 18-49 and 8.1 million viewers overall on November 11, 2008). In its two-hour time period, "Loser" ranked #2 among the major networks in adults 18-49 and #1 in adults 18-34, women 18-34 and women 18-49.
For its second hour, from 9-10 p.m. ET, "Biggest Loser" ranked #1 in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, women 18-49 and women 18-34, topping such competition as CBS's "NCIS: LA," ABC's "Dancing With the Stars" results show and Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance." From its first half-hour to its fourth, "Biggest Loser" grew by 38 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 4.4/11 from a 3.2/9) and by 21 percent or more than 1.8 million persons in total viewers (to 10.7 million from 8.8 million).
Tuesday from 10:01-11 p.m. ET, "The Jay Leno Show" averaged a 1.9/5 in adults 18-49, a 2.2/6 in adults 25-54 and 5.8 million viewers overall, versus time-period competition that included CBS's "The Good Wife" and ABC's special "In the Spotlight: All Access Nashville." This marks the second-highest 18-49 rating for "The Jay Leno Show" on any night of the week in five weeks (since Tuesday, Oct. 6), trailing only the prior Tuesday's 2.0 by a tenth of a rating point. In the time period, "The Jay Leno Show" tied for #1 among the major networks in men 18-34 and ranked #2 in men 18-49.
Versus Jay Leno's 2008-09 average at 11:35 p.m. ET on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," Tuesday's telecast was up in adults 18-49 (1.9 vs. 1.4), adults 25-54 (2.2 vs. 1.8) and total viewers (5.8 million vs. 5.1 million). Comparisons to NBC's Monday-through-Friday 10-11 p.m. ET non-sports average over the prior 52 weeks were: in adults 18-49 (1.9 vs. 2.2), adults 25-54 (2.2 vs. 2.7) and total viewers (5.8 million vs. 6.9 million).
On Wednesday, November 11 from 8-9 p.m. ET, "Mercy" averaged a 1.7/5 in adults 18-49 and 6.7 million viewers overall. From its first half-hour to its second, "Mercy" increased by 6 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 1.8 from a 1.7), by 14 percent in women 18-49 (to a 2.4 from a 2.1), by 15 percent in adults 25-54 (to a 2.3 from a 2.0) and by 16 percent in women 25-54 (to a 2.9 from a 2.5). In total viewers, "Mercy" was up 16 percent versus NBC's average in this time slot during the regular 2008-09 season (6.7 million vs. 5.7 million).
Wednesday from 9-10:01 p.m. ET, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (2.8/7 in adults 18-49, 8.8 million viewers overall) matched its highest 18-49 rating of the season and delivered its second-biggest overall viewership of the season. "SVU" also equaled NBC's highest 18-49 rating in this time period during the traditional primetime season since October 1, 2008.
Week-to-week, "SVU" was up 17 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 2.8 from a 2.4) and 10 percent in total viewers (to 8.8 million from 7.9 million). Versus NBC's average in this slot during the regular 2008-09 season, "SVU" was up 65 percent in 18-49 rating (2.8 vs. 1.7) and 50 percent or more than 2.9 million persons in total viewers (8.8 million vs. 5.9 million). It is worth noting that so far this season, "Law & Order: SVU" has added 22 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from its "live plus same day" to its "live plus seven day" results.
Wednesday from 10:01-11 p.m. ET, "The Jay Leno Show" averaged a 1.4/4 in adults 18-49, a 1.7/4 in adults 25-54 and 4.7 million viewers overall. "Leno" matched its 18-49 rating of the prior Wednesday and was up 6 percent in adults 25-54 (1.7 vs. 1.6). Wednesday's time-period competition included CBS's "CSI: NY" and ABC's telecast of the CMA Awards.

"Community" was up 24 percent in 18-49 rating versus NBC's average this season in this time period prior to "Community's" debut (2.1 vs. 1.7). It is worth noting that so far this season, "Community" has added 24 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from its "live plus same day" to its "live plus seven day" results.
Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET, "Parks and Recreation" (2.1/6 in 18-49, 4.6 million viewers overall) retained 100 percent of its 18-49 lead-in from "Community" and has now retained 95 percent or more of its 18-49 lead-in with nine of nine telecasts in this slot so far this season. "Parks" ranked #2 among the major networks in men 18-34 and tied for #2 in adults 18-34. So far this season, "Parks and Recreation" has added 19 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from its "live plus same day" to its "live plus seven day" results.
Thursday from 9-9:31 p.m. ET, "The Office" (4.2/10 in 18-49, 8.0 million viewers overall) ranked #1 among the major networks in men 18-34 and men 18-49, outscoring ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," CBS's "CSI" and Fox's "Fringe." "The Office" ranked #2 in the half-hour among adults 18-49, topping "CSI" in the half-hour for the sixth week in a row. "The Office" also ranked #2 in the slot in adults 18-34, behind only "Grey's Anatomy."

"30 Rock" is a heavily time-shifted program, so far this season adding an average 23 percent to its 18-49 rating when going from its "live plus same day" to its "live plus seven day" results.
Thursday from 10:01-11 p.m. ET, "The Jay Leno Show" averaged a 1.6/5 in adults 18-49, a 1.8/5 in adults 25-54 and 4.8 million viewers overall. Thursday's time-period competition included ABC's "Private Practice" and CBS's "The Mentalist." On a night that included special competition from the NFL Network's coverage of Bears-49ers football, "Leno" matched its 18-49 and 25-54 ratings of the prior Thursday.

Friday from 10:01-11 p.m. ET, "The Jay Leno Show" averaged a 1.2/4 in adults 18-49, a 1.5/4 in adults 25-54 and 4.7 million viewers overall. Friday's time-period competition included CBS's "Numb3rs" and ABC's "20/20." "The Jay Leno Show" matched its 18-49 and 25-54 ratings of the prior Friday and was up 1 percent in total viewers (4.7 million vs. 4.6 million) and up 11 percent in adults 18-34 (1.0 rating vs. 0.9).

On Saturday, November 14 at 8 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of "Mercy" averaged a 0.5/1 in 18-49 and 2.3 million viewers overall. From its first half-hour to its second, "Mercy" increased in adults 18-49 by 25 percent (to a 0.5 from a 0.4) and in women 18-49 by 40 percent (0.7 vs. 0.5). Week-to-week, the "Mercy" encore in this slot was up 7 percent in total viewers (2.3 million vs. 2.1 million).
Saturday at 9 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of "Law & Order" (0.9/3 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall) built on its lead-in from the previous hour by 80 percent in adults 18-49 and 84 percent in total viewers.
Saturday at 10 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall) ranked #2 among the major networks in adults 18-49 and was the #1 non-sports program in the hour in that key demo. "SVU" built on its lead-in from the previous hour by 33 percent in 18-49 and 32 percent in total viewers.
On Sunday, November 15, the "NBC Sunday Night Football" telecast of the New England Patriots at the Indianapolis Colts led NBC to a commanding Sunday night win in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and total viewers. NBC also ranked #1 for the night in women 18-49 and all key adult-male demographics - men 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54. For its full duration, the Patriots-Colts game averaged an 8.6/22 in adults 18-49, 22.4 million viewers overall and a 13.7/22 household rating/share from 8:31-11:50 p.m. ET.
This was NBC's top-scoring Sunday night in both 18-49 and total viewers since September 20 (New York Giants-Dallas Cowboys).
Sunday's Patriots-Colts game was up 16 percent in 18-49 rating and 16 percent or more than 3.1 million persons in total viewers versus the "Sunday Night Football" game that aired on the same night last year (a 7.4/17 in 18-49 and 19.3 million viewers overall for the Cowboys-Redskins on November 16, 2008).
For the night (from 7:30-11 p.m. ET), NBC averaged a 7.1/18 in adults 18-49 and 19.1 million viewers overall. NBC's margin of victory over the #2 network was 27 percent in adults 18-49 (7.1/18 for NBC from 7:30-11 p.m. vs. a 5.6/14 for Fox from 7-10 p.m.) and 40 percent in total viewers (19.1 million for NBC vs. 13.6 million for Fox).
Also on Sunday, "Football Night in America 2" from 7:30-7:57 p.m. ET averaged a 1.6/5 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall and a 3.0/5 household rating/share. "Football Night in America 3" from 7:57-8:22 p.m. delivered a 4.1/11 in 18-49, 11.9 million viewers overall and a 7.3/12 in households. From 8:22-8:31 p.m., "NBC Sunday Night Football Pre Kickoff" averaged a 6.0/15 in 18-49, 17.0 million viewers overall and a 10.4/16 in households. Note: "Football Night in America" from 7-7:30 p.m. ET was sustaining programming and does not figure in the nightly or weekly primetime averages.
