UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - September 2, 2010 - Encore telecasts of NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" have won the week of August 23-27 in adult 18-49 viewers and total viewers over all cable and broadcast competition, including originals of CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" and the ABC combination in the hour of "Nightline" originals and "Jimmy Kimmel Live" encores. Note that "Late Show" Friday results are excluded from these averages due to an NFL overrun.
At 12:35 a.m. ET, encore telecasts of "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" also won the time period in adult 18-49 viewers over all cable and broadcast competition. The "Late Show" encores attracted bigger audiences than CBS's rebroadcasts of "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" and ABC's "Kimmel" encores in every key ratings category: adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, as well as total viewers.
To date, Jay Leno has ranked #1 for 25 of 25 weeks versus "Late Show" in adult 18-49 rating and total viewers (including one tie in 18-49) since returning as host of "Tonight" on March 1 (excluding the week of Wimbledon delays). Jimmy Fallon has ranked #1 or tied for #1 versus "Late Late Show" for 26 weeks in a row in 18-49 rating (excluding Wimbledon week). In total viewers, Jimmy has won eight weeks in a row.
In adults 18-49 for the week, the audience for "Tonight" encores last week was 11 percent bigger than the viewership for "Late Show" originals (1.198 million vs. 1.078 million), in total viewers, Jay won by 1 percent (3.138 million vs. 3.114 million) and in adults 18-34, his margin was 21 percent (432,000 vs. 357,000). In adults 18-49, Jimmy Fallon's audience was 37 percent bigger than "Late Late Show's" (762,000 vs. 555,000), in total viewers, the "Late Night" advantage was 1 percent (1.455 million vs. 1.444 million) and in adults 18-34, Jimmy's margin was 47 percent (294,000 vs. 200,000).
For the week at 1:35 a.m. ET, encore telecasts of �Last Call with Carson Daly� (0.4 rating in 18-49, 0.3 in 18-34) tied ABC's rebroadcasts of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" and CBS's encores of "Late Late Show" in adult 18-49 rating and adult 18-34 rating. Week to week, Carson Daly jumped 12 percent in total viewers (to 930,000 from 831,000) and 26 percent in 18-49 viewers (530,000 vs. 419,000).
