UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - July 21, 2011 - NBC's late-night lineup has generated #1 finishes for the week of July 11-15, as "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" amassed bigger audiences than CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" and ABC's combination of "Nightline" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in all key ratings categories: adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers. At 12:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" also out-delivered CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" and ABC's "Kimmel" in all key ratings categories. Note that "Kimmel" was in rebroadcast last week and the Friday "Late Show" was also an encore.
Versus the same week last year, "Tonight" stretched its margin over "Late Show" in viewers 18-49 to 35 percent (1.215 million vs. 903,000), up from last year's 25 percent, and increased its lead in total viewers to 37 percent (3.816 million vs. 2.793 million), up from last year's 24 percent.
Versus the same week last year, Jimmy Fallon increased his advantage over "Late Late Show" in viewers 18-49 to 40 percent (772,000 vs. 551,000), up from last year's 18 percent, and stretched his lead to 26 percent in total viewers (1.709 million vs. 1.353 million), up from last year's 8 percent.
So far during the 2010-11 television season versus the first 43 weeks of last season, "Tonight" is up by 14 percent in total viewers (3.894 million vs. 3.421 million), while "Late Show" is down 9 percent (3.462 million vs. 3.788 million). At 12:35 a.m. ET, Jimmy Fallon is also up 14 percent versus his year-ago pace in total viewers (1.779 million vs. 1.566 million), while "Late Late Show" is down 7 percent (1.700 million vs. 1.830 million).
At 1:35 a.m. ET, "Last Call with Carson Daly" is up so far this season versus one year ago by 6 percent in 18-49 viewers (494,000 vs. 467,000) and up 13 percent in total viewers (987,000 vs. 866,000).
Jay Leno has ranked #1 for 40 of 42 weeks this season versus "Late Show" in viewers 18-49 and total viewers (excluding the week of Wimbledon delays). Jimmy Fallon has ranked #1 versus "Late Late Show" in viewers 18-49 for 42 of 42 weeks this season (excluding Wimbledon week). In total viewers, Jimmy has out-delivered "Late Late Show" for the last nine weeks in a row.
