UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - August 4, 2011 - NBC's late-night lineup has delivered #1 finishes for the week of July 25-29, as "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" generated bigger audiences than CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" and ABC's combination of "Nightline" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in viewers 18-49, total viewers and other key ratings categories. At 12:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" also out-delivered CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" and ABC's "Kimmel" in viewers 18-49, total viewers and other key ratings categories. Note that "Late Show" and "Kimmel" were encores on Friday night, while Monday ABC and CBS telecasts were delayed by news coverage and are excluded from these averages.
"Tonight" out-delivered "Late Show" in viewers 18-49 by a 30 percent margin (1.128 million vs. 869,000) and attracted bigger audiences than "Late Show" in every key ratings category: adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers. At 12:35 a.m. ET, Jimmy Fallon delivered bigger audiences than "Late Late Show" in adults and women 18-34; adults, men and women 18-49; adults and women 25-54; and total viewers.
So far during the 2010-11 television season versus the first 45 weeks of last season, "Tonight" is up by 13 percent in total viewers (3.888 million vs. 3.452 million), while "Late Show" is down 8 percent (3.438 million vs. 3.753 million). At 12:35 a.m. ET, Jimmy Fallon is also up 13 percent versus his year-ago pace in total viewers (1.773 million vs. 1.569 million), while "Late Late Show" is down 7 percent (1.687 million vs. 1.814 million).
At 1:35 a.m. ET, "Last Call with Carson Daly" is up so far this season versus one year ago by 5 percent in 18-49 viewers (490,000 vs. 466,000) and up 13 percent in total viewers (981,000 vs. 869,000).
Jay Leno has ranked #1 for 42 of 44 weeks this season versus "Late Show" in viewers 18-49 and total viewers (excluding the week of Wimbledon delays). Jimmy Fallon has ranked #1 versus "Late Late Show" in viewers 18-49 for 44 of 44 weeks this season (excluding Wimbledon week). In total viewers, Jimmy has out-delivered "Late Late Show" for the last 11 weeks in a row.
