NEW YORK - August 16, 2011 - Oxygen's fantasy hair competition series, "Hair Battle Spectacular" returned for a second season hair-raising debut delivering double digit growth in key demos A18-34 (+25% 331,000 vs. 265,000) and W18-34 (+14% 252,000 vs. 221,000) along with growth in A18-49 (+6% 488,000 vs. 460,000), W18-49 (+6% 385,000 vs. 363,000) and in total viewers (+1% 874,000 vs. 866,000). Oxygen's hit "Bad Girls Club" continues to deliver week-over-week ratings growth to season highs: episode three, which also aired last night, was up +14% with A18-49 (902,000 vs. 790,000), +23% among W18-49 (664,000 vs. 540,000), +18% among W18-34 (494,000 vs. 420,000), +6% among A18-34 (665,000 vs. 629,000), and +4% on a total viewer basis (1,308,000 vs. 1,254,000). Oxygen was the #1 ranked cable network in the 9PM hour among W18-34, out-delivering CBS and NBC.
"Hair Battle Spectacular" pits 11 of America's hottest stylists against each other to see who can deliver the biggest and best in fantasy hair design to win a grand prize of $100,000. Each challenge requires contestants to create outrageous coifs that resemble everything from Hollywood stars to hounds and handbags. In last night's gravity defying premiere, stylist Dnise Brown ("Bronx") was eliminated for not delivering the best in creativity, execution and overall presentation by judges award-winning fantasy hair designer Derek J, celebrity stylist Taylor Jacobson ("The Rachel Zoe Project") and guest judge celebrity blogger Kristen Aldridge.
