UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - September 20, 2011 - With a top-scoring NFL telecast, potent numbers from the final episodes of "America's Got Talent" and strong ratings for the series preview of "Up All Night," NBC dominated the primetime ratings week of September 12-18, averaging a 2.8 rating, 8 share in adults 18-49 and 8.2 million viewers overall, according to in-home viewing figures from Nielsen Media Research.
For the week, NBC ranked #1 among the major networks in all key measures - adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49, 25-54, as well as total viewers.
For the week NBC claimed four of the top five rankings in adults 18-49 (excluding all football pre-game and post-game telecasts), with "NBC Sunday Night Football" ranking #1, the Tuesday and Wednesday editions of "America's Got Talent" ranking #3 and #4 respectively and Tuesday's special preview of the new comedy "Up All Night" ranking #5. Also ranking among the top programs of the week in adults 18-49 were the season premiere of "Parenthood" (#14) and Tuesday's special preview of the new comedy "Free Agents" (#15, tied).
In total viewers, NBC aired the top three telecasts of the week and four of the top 10 (excluding football pre-game and post-game telecasts) - "Sunday Night Football," with 23.4 million viewers was #1; Wednesday's "America's Got Talent" finale, with 14.4 million viewers was #2; Tuesday's edition of "America's Got Talent," with 13.7 million viewers was #3; and the preview of "Up All Night," with 10.9 million viewers was #6. This marked the 16th consecutive week that "America's Got Talent" ranked #1 in total viewers among non-sports programs on the broadcast networks.
"NBC Sunday Night Football" earned the distinction this week of ranking #1 among all primetime programs on the broadcast networks in all key ratings measures - adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54. plus total viewers - as well as teens 12-17 and kids 2-11.
Primetime averages for the week of September 12-18 in adults 18-49 were NBC (2.8/8), ABC and CBS (1.7/5), Fox (1.6/5) and CW (0.8/2). In overall total viewers the weekly averages were NBC (8.2 million), CBS (7.1 million), ABC (5.9 million), Fox (4.8 million) and CW (1.9 million).
The week of September 12-18 concluded the unofficial 2011 summer season. NBC ranked #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in primetime in adults 18-49 with a 1.8 rating for the period May 26 through September 18, 2011. Primetime averages for the period May 26-September 18 in adults 18-49 were NBC (1.8), ABC and Fox (1.7), CBS (1.4), and CW (0.4). In overall total viewers, summer 2011 averages were CBS (6.4 million), NBC (6.2 million), ABC (5.5 million), Fox (4.6 million) and CW (0.9 million).
NBC highlights for the week of September 12-18:
* On Sunday, NBC Sports' "Sunday Night Football" telecast of the Philadelphia Eagles at the Atlanta Falcons led NBC to a dominant Sunday night win in all key measures - adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49, 25-54 and total viewers. NBC's margin of victory over its closest network competitor Sunday night was 140 percent in adults 18-49 and 96 percent in total viewers.
* The 10.0 rating in adults 18-49 for Sunday's Eagles-Falcons telecast marks a new high for an NFL week two "NBC Sunday Night Football" game and the highest 18-49 rating for any week two primetime telecast in 17 years. Sunday's Eagles-Falcons game was up 9 percent in adults 18-49 and 1 percent in total viewers versus the "Sunday Night Football" Giants-Colts matchup that aired during the same week last year.
* On Friday, "Dateline NBC" reported the #1 rating of the night on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox or CW in adults 18-49, marking the 13th time this summer that "Dateline" has ranked #1 or tied for #1 among all non-sports Friday telecasts on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in primetime's key demographic.
* NBC ranked #1 in primetime Friday night among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and all other key demographics.
* On Wednesday, the season finale of "America's Got Talent" delivered a season high for a Wednesday "Talent" in total viewers and scored the show's highest 18-49 rating on the night in more than two months. With 14.4 million viewers, the "Talent" finale marked NBC's biggest overall audience in the time period over the past year.
* "America's Got Talent" won its highly competitive time period in adults 18-49, total viewers and virtually all other key ratings categories versus CBS's two-hour block of the "Survivor" season premiere from 8-9:30 p.m. and the first half-hour of the "Big Brother" finale from 9:30-10 p.m.
* The "America's Got Talent" finale was the #1 telecast of the night in total viewers, and the #2 show of the night in adults 18-49, behind only NBC's 10 p.m. ET preview of "Up All Night."
* On Wednesday, at 10 p.m. ET, a special preview of the new comedy "Up All Night" scored a 3.7 rating in adults 18-49, the #1 rating of the night in the key demo. In total viewers, "Up All Night" was the #2 telecast of the night, behind only the "America's Got Talent" finale.

Week to week, the Tuesday "Talent" surged 23 percent in adults 18-49 rating and 14 percent or 1.8 million persons in total viewers.

On Monday, September 12 from 8-9 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "America's Got Talent" averaged a 1.1 rating, 3 share in 18-49 and 4.4 million viewers overall. The Monday "Talent" encore earned its top 18-49 rating in this hour in five weeks (since August 8) and its biggest overall viewership in four weeks (since August 15).
Monday from 9-11 p.m. ET, "Miss Universe 2011" (1.6/4, 5.3 million viewers overall) attracted NBC's biggest overall audience in this time period since July 4, the night of the "Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular."
In a competitive time period against ABC's finale of "Bachelor Pad," Fox's "Hell's Kitchen" and the premiere of ESPN's "Monday Night Football," "Miss Universe" grew from its first half-hour to its fourth by 29 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 1.8 rating from a 1.4) and by 27 percent or 1.3 million persons in total viewers (5.9 million vs. 4.6 million).
On Tuesday, September 13 from 8-9 p.m. ET, "It's Worth What?" (1.2/4 in 18-49, 4.8 million viewers overall) matched its highest 18-49 rating in seven weeks (since July 26).
Tuesday from 9-10:03 p.m. ET, "America's Got Talent" (3.8/10 in adults 18-49, 13.7 million viewers overall) hit a nine-week high in adults 18-49 and total viewers, scoring its top results in both measures since July 12.
"America's Got Talent" was the #1 show on television Tuesday night in adults 18-49, total viewers and other key measures. "Talent" ranked #1 in its time period among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in all key measures - adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, as well as total viewers -- plus teens 12-17 and kids 2-11.
Week to week, the Tuesday "Talent" surged 23 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 3.8 from a 3.1) and 14 percent or 1.8 million persons in total viewers (13.670 million vs. 11.849 million).
From its first hour to its second, "Talent" grew in all key ratings categories, including gains of 11 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 4.0 rating from a 3.6), 11 percent in adults 25-54 (5.2 vs. 4.7) and 7 percent in total viewers (14.1 million vs. 13.2 million).
Tuesday from 10:03-11:02 p.m. ET, the third-season premiere of "Parenthood" (2.2/6 in 18-49, 6.3 million viewers overall) ranked #1 among the broadcast networks in the hour in adults 18-49, adults 18-34, adults 25-54 and other key demographic measures. Versus its average for first-run episodes last season, "Parenthood" was up 5 percent in 18-49 rating (2.2 vs. 2.1, "live plus same day') and up 20 percent in total viewers (6.290 million vs. 5.237 million).
"Parenthood" attracted its second biggest overall audience in the past year, placing behind only last season's finale (6.319 million) among all "Parenthood" telecasts since its year-ago season premiere on September 14, 2010.

On Wednesday, September 14 from 8-10 p.m. ET, the season finale of "America's Got Talent" (3.6/10 in 18-49, 14.4 million viewers overall) won its highly competitive time period in adults 18-49, total viewers and virtually all other key ratings categories versus CBS's two-hour block of the "Survivor" season premiere from 8-9:30 p.m. and the first half-hour of the "Big Brother" finale from 9:30-10 p.m.
With 14.4 million viewers, the "America's Got Talent" finale delivered a season high for a Wednesday "Talent" telecast in total viewers and scored the show's highest 18-49 rating on the night in more than two months (since July 6). This also marks NBC's biggest overall audience in the time period over the past year.
"Talent" was the #1 telecast of the night in total viewers and the #2 show of the night in adults 18-49, behind only NBC's 10 p.m. ET preview of "Up All Night" (see below).
From its first half-hour to its fourth, "America's Got Talent" grew by 39 percent in both adults 18-49 (to a 4.3 rating from a 3.1) and total viewers (17.0 million vs. 12.2 million).
Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET, a special preview of the new comedy "Up All Night" (3.7/10 in 18-49, 10.9 million viewers overall) scored the #1 rating of the night in adults 18-49. This 3.7 rating was up 76 percent versus the 2.1 rating NBC averaged in this time period last season ("live plus same day," non-sports). Versus the same night last year, "Up All Night" was up 54 percent in 18-49 rating versus the 2.4 NBC averaged in the slot with the first half-hour of an "Outlaw" preview, which also aired following the "Talent" season finale.
In total viewers, "Up All Night" was the #2 telecast of the night, behind only the finale of "America's Got Talent." In overall viewership, "Up All Night" topped NBC's slot average from last season by 52 percent (10.947 million vs. 7.188 million).
Airing against CBS's "Big Brother" finale and ABC's first-run "Primetime: Celebrity Secrets," "Up All Night" ranked #1 among the broadcast networks in all key ratings categories - adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers.
At 10:30 p.m. ET, a special preview of "Free Agents" (2.1/6 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall) ranked #2 among the broadcast networks in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and other key ratings categories, behind only the concluding half-hour of CBS's "Big Brother" finale.
"Up All Night" and "Free Agents" are scheduled to premiere in their regular time periods, Wednesday at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. ET respectively, on September 21.

On Thursday, September 15 at 8 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of "Community" averaged a 0.6/2 in 18-49 and 2.0 million viewers overall, delivering its biggest overall audience since July 14.
At 8:30 p.m. ET, a rebroadcast of Wednesday night's preview episode of "Up All Night" delivered a 1.0/3 in 18-49 and 2.5 million viewers overall, building on its lead-in by 67 percent in 18-49 rating and 23 percent in total viewers. Excluding sports, these were NBC's top 18-49 and total-viewer results in this time period since May 19.
Thursday from 9-9:31 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "The Office" (1.4/4 in 18-49, 3.1 million viewers overall) hit summer highs in adults 18-49 and total viewers. "The Office" tied for #2 in the half-hour among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in adults 18-49 and was #1 in men 18-34.
From 9:31-10 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of Wednesday's "Free Agents" preview episode delivered a 1.1/3 in 18-49 and 2.4 million viewers overall. Excluding sports, this is NBC's highest 18-49 rating in the time period since June 2.
Thursday at 10 p.m. ET, an encore telecast of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" averaged a 0.8/2 in 18-49 and 3.0 million viewers overall. From its first half-hour to its second, "SVU" grew by 13 percent in total viewers (to 3.234 million from 2.850 million).
On Friday, September 16 from 8-9 p.m. ET, the "2011 ALMA Awards" (0.7/3 in 18-49, 2.7 million viewers overall) matched NBC's highest 18-49 rating in the time period since July 15 and generated the network's biggest overall audience in the slot since July 29. Versus results for its most recent telecast (0.5/2 in 18-49 and 2.078 million viewers overall on ABC, Friday, Sept. 18, 2009, 8-10 p.m.), the "2011 ALMA Awards" were up 40 percent in 18-49 rating and 29 percent in total viewers.

From its first half-hour to its second, "SVU" grew by 14 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 0.8 from a 0.7) and 22 percent in total viewers (to 3.7 million from 3.0 million).
On Sunday, September 18, the "NBC Sunday Night Football" telecast of the Philadelphia Eagles at the Atlanta Falcons led NBC to a convincing Sunday win by all key measures. For its full duration, the Eagles-Falcons game averaged a 10.0/25 in adults 18-49, 23.4 million viewers overall and a 14.3/23 household rating/share from 8:31-11:47 p.m. ET.
The 10.0 rating in adults 18-49 for the Eagles-Falcons telecast marks a new high for an NFL week two "Sunday Night Football" game and the highest 18-49 rating for any week two primetime telecast in 17 years (since Monday, September 12, 1994; Bears-Eagles, 10.5 rating). Sunday's Eagles-Falcons game was up 9 percent in 18-49 rating and 1 percent in total viewers versus the "Sunday Night Football" game that aired during the same week last year (a 9.2/24 and 23.1 million viewers for the Giants-Colts matchup on September 19, 2010).
NBC won Sunday night by all key ratings measures. In adults 18-49, NBC's margin of victory over the #2 network was 140 percent in 18-49 rating (8.4 vs. a 3.5 for Fox) and 96 percent, or 9.9 million persons in total viewers (20.2 million vs. 10.3 million for Fox).
Also on Sunday, "Football Night in America 2" from 7:30-7:57 p.m. ET averaged a 3.4/10 in 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall and a 5.3/9 household rating/share. "Football Night in America 3" from 7:57-8:22 p.m. delivered a 5.5/15 in 18-49, 13.4 million viewers overall and an 8.3/14 in households. From 8:22-8:31 p.m., "NBC Sunday Night Football Pre Kickoff" averaged a 7.4/20 in 18-49, 18.3 million viewers overall and an 11.2/18 in households. Note: "Football Night in America" from 7-7:30 p.m. ET was sustaining programming and does not figure in the nightly or weekly primetime averages.
